Hi there, I've been shopping around for a 1911 for a while now. I'm having a hard time making up my mind. I was pretty much set on buying cdnammos SR1911+1000rnds but then I started wondering if I was spending $1000 already, would I be better off buying a $1000 and worrying about ammo later? I was also wondering if maybe I should just buy a Norinco to see how I like the platform. I've held an old colt and really liked the way it felt but I have never fired one.

I hear Sigs are really good
I hear mixed things about Kimber but their fans are big fans.
I have heard a lot of good things about the Ruger, with not much negative aside from the looks, which I don't think are bad.
Is it worth buying modern colt over a Sig or Kimber and are those guns in the $1000 or below bracket worth buying or do you need to buy higher to get the full effect?
The Remmintons look really good in pictures but I've read that the Ruger is smoother and has a better fit/finish up close and the Rems are a bit more money.

I'm not into competition shooting, just putting holes in paper for leisure, but if I'm going to be spending more money I'm looking for accuracy as well as looks and smoothness of operation.

I'd appreciate any suggestions or tales of experience.

Thanks :]

I have several, including two old-school Colt 1911s. I'm sorry to those who don't agree, but for a plinker look no further than the CanAm unmarked Norc plus ammo deal... The sights and trigger were fine on mine, and $14 for a pair of new grips and you're still waaaaay ahead.

Seriously considering it.

For only target shooting here and there....., I would go for either the SR1911 or the Remington R1e (e for enhanced), both choice for $700-850, why pay more ? , they will do the same as any 1911 valued at $1000-1500 and more...... keep your money for the ammo.

I have the Remington R1e (enhanced), superb plateform, very nice finish, out of 950 rounds only one jam, very smooth action and very acurate, I would buy this gun again anytime !!!

Yeah if I went witha Remington it would be the R1E, I really like the looks. They're $200 more than the Ruger where I've found them though. Thats getting into Kimber CustomII territory.

always a personal choice, and feeling .....

Sorry bud, the camo doesn't really do it for me. Best of luck though.

No camo bud, just tan frame. I sold the laser grips they're useless.

It's all good. I hope you find one you like. The Remington R1 enhanced is nice, I've shot um a few times. Good luck to you too. Lets us know what you decide on. Just remember, you'll never own just one 1911.

Also: are you dead set on a .45? If not, then an STI Trojan is the way to go. Got mine from Gary at wanstalls.

There is a real Colt on the EE that has been "up-graded " with target sights etc made in 1913, I have something similar and it is a great shooter...I do however reduce the charge a bit but I have run lots of factory ammo through it with no problems.

Here is a picture of it beside a bone stock SAM Commander-E:

I'm going to go with a .45, maybe if I had a few 1911s I'd consider a 9mm, but in my mind a 1911 is a .45 caliber pistol.

You will get the full effect with the Norinco...but the trigger on mine is very heavy and the factory sights inadequate. I also have a Colt NMGC and STI Ranger II...both are more fun to shoot...a STI Trojan is about the same price as a Colt O series at around $1200...either would be give fine service for a lifetime

I have a SAM and Norinco (Canam special) and both shoot well. The Norinco shot well right out of the box. 200 rounds and not one failure. The SAM needed tuning and had to be returned for modifications before it would shoot reliably. Of course, if you want reliable, get a Glock, the Glock 21 in .45 auto.

I don't want to have to screw with it to have it run properly and I've read a lot of that about the SAM.

You don't need a Glock to be reliable, not looking for a Glock. It I were in the states and considered a pistol a self defense weapon I would look into a Glock, but here I want some thing pretty and cool to shoot paper with lol. They're cool in their own way, but in a Dewalt power tool sort of way. If I bought one it would be in 9mm as well as I consider it to be a more practical caliber better fitting the Toyota Camry of guns.

Love my Ruger SR 1911, hands down, the best shooting, out of the box handgun I have ever owned. I have a Norinco as well and owned a PARA GI Expert. No comparison, go Ruger

Nighthawk Custom.

Somehow I think that might be a bit out of my price range.

A lot of people are suggesting STI, I don't know anything about them nor have I seen any around, maybe just because I wasn't looking for them specifically over time. Is there a good dealer site that I can take a look at specs and pricing?
