Looking to buy a 22 revolver

I have decided I would like my next purchase to be a 22 revolver. My problem is I don't know much about the different ones available. I am hoping that some of you revolver fans can help me decide. I am hoping to stay under $500 and don't care whether new or used. I am looking for information on:
Accuracy
Ease of loading
Adjustable sites
size of grips (it will be for my wife (5'2') and myself (5'10")
Weight (again for the wife)
9 round versus 6

The only other revolver I have experience with is an old western style 357 which I am in love with but my friend won't sell.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. :D
 
I think the best .22 wheelgun is the S&W Model 17 (K-22 Masterpiece). They are as accurate as they come and the swing out cylinder makes for more convenient loading and ejection of spent brass.

The 617 is also a decent gun, but they all have a full length underlug, which makes for a very front-heavy gun. I prefer the looks and balance of the traditional barrel contours.

Standard S&W target grips are quite large and are definitely not the best for small hands. Ahrends makes similarly styled grips, which are much slimmer. Magna grips and a grip adapter would also work OK, too. I have a set of Roper grips made by Herrett's on my K-38, which are quite nice. The Herrett's grips are custom made, using a tracing of your hand you send them when you place your order.

You may or may not find a used S&W for under $500, but you won't regret buying one. Fit and finish are very good, as are the triggers. I would stay away from cheaper guns like Taurus.
 
I'd confirm that, the K-22/Model 17 is the way to go, great gun - extremely accurate.
 
I did say I hoped to stay under $500. Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about the Ruegers? Unfortunatley the Smith and Wessons don't show up on the ee very often, what dealers would be the best?

Look for an older S&W M17 or a K22. I have a 1949 K-22 Masterpiece, sweet gun and close to your budget.

I appreciate all this info. I like what everyone says about S&W, I also like the idea of the Ruger. Now can someone point me in the right direction to buy one for close to what I have to spend. I am getting antsy and don't want to cave on something I probably won't be as happy with.:cheers:
