Hello, I'm new to this site and I hope I'm putting this request in the right area? I'm looking to purchase a Sig P226R w/night sights 40 cal. I live in British Columbia and am looking for a reputable gun dealer or person to purchase it from. I've spoken to a few people and although they recommend a Sig they suggest buying a 9mm. I currently carry a 9mm as a service pistol and I think I would like something that packs a bigger punch. I'm interested in IPSC shoots and may be looking at getting into that in the future. Would 40 cal. be recommended for this style of shooting or would 9mm be a better choice. Sounds more like a personal preference to me...if anyone is currently involved in IPSC maybe they can comment?

IPSC depends on what division you intend on competing in. If you intend on shooting in Production, the 9mm makes more sense as there is no major power factor. If you want to shoot in Standard, the .40 makes more sense because you can make major PF with it and hence score more points.

9mm ammo is also generally cheaper than .40, so you can practice more unless you intend on handloading. The 9mm will also last longer.

Buy both. ;)

Whichever caliber you go with, make sure you get a SIG thats IN STOCK. I ordered a P226 Elite 6 weeks ago, and was just told by the gun shop that the distributor said it will be at least another 10 weeks before it gets here. :bangHead: I guess they wait until they have a sizeable order before they go ahead and import them. I can understand why they're doing it, but it sure doesn't make the wait any easier. :(

I went with a Sig226-R with night sights in 9mm. But then again, I don't reload and factory 9mm is so much cheaper to plink with. My opinion is, if you do intend to reload get the .40, from what I've seen my friends go through, 9mm isn't worth reloading, so if you aren't intending on reloading get the 9mm.

Sorry to highjack the thread for a sec but, RPM what did you pay for the Elite? I'm thinking about getting one and selling my 226-R.

Good thread here swmckee. I was no word of a lie going to be posting pretty much of the same questions. Thanks to you and the knowledgeable GUNNUTZ, I will save some time. Just one questions to the owners of the P226-R. Are the Sig P226’s life expectance comparable to that of the Glocks? I’m just looking for the most reliable bang for my bucks. Thanks… chev

My experience on the range is that the SIGs last longer than the Glocks.

Personal opinion but I find the fit and finish and the feel of the Sig is much more superior to the Glock. With that being said, I wouldn't know whether the Glock will last longer than the Sig, but I would value and trust Redleg's opinion on this because he does gun rentals at TSE.

I've spoken to a gentleman who has broken at least 2 glocks, one within the first 2600 rounds (.40 cal). He has never seen a SIG fail. It says something. Glock's design hasn't changed in how many years? 20? Walther, S&W and Springfield all have better polymer pistols now. I don't think its really a fair comparison anymore.
