Looking to buy first over under shotgun any suggestions ?

Looking to buy my first over under shotgun any suggestions not looking for top of the line gun. Any advice would be greatly appreciated .

A used browning or if you're lucky a beretta would serve you well and 2 3/4" chambers and fixed mod and full chokes while unpopular with hunters would not hurt your goals at all and likely save you some cash. You may also want to look for miruko O/U's if buying used.

I've played the game of budget doubles and in the long run you save more by choosing to pay for quality. Many of the O/U's in your price range are field guns and while serviceable they aren't a trap gun.

$1200 wont get much with an O/U, Unless its an older fixed choke model. Anything worth buying is more common and guaranteed to last and easier to get replacement parts in case the firing pins break etc.

Used Browning O/U trap shotguns do show up in the EE for $1200 or less. And if it did have fixed chokes, that wouldn't make it unsuitable for trap.

Another vote for an old browning. Most machine shops can bore out the fixed chokes if you like. Light Modified will do well for trap or sporting, IC for Skeet or sporting, full cylinder or skeet if you want to play the skeet game.

If you pay for a good gun to start, it will save many years of buying and selling.
As long as you keep it clean and dry, you probably wont go too far wrong with a good ol Citori
