Looking to buy my first AR

I have almost 1000 rounds through my NEA build. No issues at all, only user error.

Barring that, I did save up and bought a Spikes.

Questar has Spikes now, but only a few left.

I think for an A2 style AR, Spikes is probably the best deal out there.

For a flat top railed AR, NEA is your bet.

And to qualify a bit better.

NEA is +1 for the rail, but Spikes comes with the flat top.

can someone explain what "flat tops" are? and the difference between them and other ARs'? thanks

Flat tops are the AR's with the railed scope mounts taking the place of the permanent carry handle. A2's are an adjustable windage rear sight on the carry handle where A1's (Vietnam era) have adjustable up and down only. 2 types of flat tops I know of. The A3 which does not have the continuation of the M4 cuts in the receiver and A4 which do. I hope I got that right. :) If I'm missing anything, someone jump in.
