Looking to buy my first AR

Only you can justify whether the expense is worth it or not...yes, they can only punch paper but dang they're awesome...remember, this is 'gunnutz'...we're here for a reason (that we have no reason when it comes to guns). So quit stalling and buy one :D (you'll be glad you did).

I was debating for a while and I broke down and said screw it, it's an "investment" in happiness and won't depreciate that much.. Plus, lifes too short for inferior firearms and I missed my C7A2.

Save up and buy the rifle you won't if you don't want to settle for a norc, a few extra hundred will get you a very nice AR.
 
As it is probably one of the most expensive “toys” I have ever bought, I did have my reservations when buying my AR, but it was worth every last cent. I bought an LMT MRP, it was way more then I was looking to spend, I have no regrets. In fact, my decision has only been reinforced with more knowledge and research. If I bought a Norc or a Stag I would have probably regretted it as I have a pungent for nice things and get off on things like HP and MP testing.

Seriously though, I have taken my AR out at least once a week since I bought it, if not just to fondle it. YMMV

Would I also need to buy a sight for it? It seems like there is no rear sight??
 
Yes, it's a flat top. So if you want iron sights there are many. The cheapest good ones would be the Magpul BUIS.

I myself use the all metal A.R.M.S. #40.

Or if you have a hankering to shoot like they did in 'Nam you can also get a carrying handle/sight that goes right on that rail.

Or you can skip iron sights and go right to a Red Dot or Scope. You should go looking at the optics subforum for more ideas.
 
No that Core has front sights. That's the triangle bit on the barrel.

Yes ARs are infinitely moddable. I've already thrown in more than a three hundred onto this Norc I bought used from a CGNer here. It was perfectly all right with what came with it. And then I decided.. nahh,... it needs to be mine.

Is there something that makes the NEA one a lot better than the Core15? I can't seem to get any answer at blueline, and their website is down. I would be more inclined to go with whats available (i.e. the Core15)

Well assuming I need rails right? I plan to upgrade my first AR verrrrry slowly haha. Just want to get a nice shooting rifle with some plain sights on it really. I think i'll go with the Core15.

- the Unique Billet upper and lower receiver that people seem to spend $400 and up for a Billet lower receiver.
- the front rail, as mentioned
- a kickass polygonal Rifled barrel
- and a super price
- plus it's made in Canada so warranty issues aren't a pain.
 
I have almost 1000 rounds through my NEA build. No issues at all, only user error.

Barring that, I did save up and bought a Spikes.

Questar has Spikes now, but only a few left.

I think for an A2 style AR, Spikes is probably the best deal out there.

For a flat top railed AR, NEA is your bet.
