Hi;

I am looking at buying my first AR and am looking for some help in determining what manufactures to consider (so many and do not know where to start :confused: ). First let me say that I am looking for one gun that I can use for CQB/3 gun and service rifle, so I am looking for something that is accurate and good quality. Could you please give your suggestion of manufacturers in order best - worst (and reason why if possible)

I would be looking for a model with the following characteristics (but if you have any other suggestions please feel free to comment)

- adjustable stock (such as Magpul PRS)
- 18 inch barrel for service rifle but can change to a shorter barrel for 3 gun and CQB (I am assuming this would require a new upper ?)
- accuracy is important especially for service rifle
- match grade trigger
- gas block rather the piston

Obviously I would be willing to make concession if I can't get this in a factory rifle but the platform is adaptable. Am considering a custom rifle as well, but want something in the meantime until a custom model could be built.

You could go full-out awesome and get a Knight's Armament SR15 with several uppers.

Gas block rather the piston? What do you mean? Do you want a direct gas impingement system or a piston driven system?

Sorry probably should have been a little more precise direct gas impingement system rather then piston driven system.

I would recommend going to QUESTAR and looking into buying a PWS Mk112. You can use it for CQB and out to about 400m or so, depending upon your ability.

I have a Mk112 with a single power Aimpoint T-1 and I can hit the 20" gong at 500m.

The rifle as configured weighs about 7lbs. This includes the Magpul MBUIS, T-1, ADM sight mount, troy post fore grip and an empty magazine.

The rifle has been used hard in rain, snow and dust, having proven itself in -20°C so far. Overall accuracy is around one MOA. The rifle as configured aims naturally, quickly & comfortably.

Overall reliability is very, very high as the rifle relies on a single piece long stroke piston system that is based upon the AK-47 system. Since running this gun I have not had any stoppages with about 4500 rounds down the pipe.

Recoil is about the same as that experienced with a standard DI rifle. Muzzle flash, climb and report are effectively mitigated by the Triad flash suppressor, good things to have if you ever do any Team CQB.
