Looking to get into shotguns

Hey all! Looking some advice getting into a good beginner shotgun. Want it mostly to get into hunting so I was thinking of a Mossberg 535 with a combo barrel. Trying to not break the bank as this will be my first shotgun and want to see if I will really get into it.

Thoughts? Advice? Better gun suggestions?

My brother in-law has the Mossberg 535 combo and he loves it. I'm a Remington fan myself. Lately the Turks having been making some pretty solid shotguns. Have a look at some of the Hatsan autoloaders before buying anything.
 
What will be your main use for the shotgun? Buy one that is suited to the main purpose. I agree with the last couple of posters ... a lightly used older 870. There are lots of barrels available for the 870s.
 
An 870 Wingmaster in three inch chamber with chokes preferable.
Twenty eight inch barrel and you will cover most of the waterfowl ing, upland blame birds and small game for the Comox Valley.
Slugs or buckshot for deer and black bear can be hunted with the afore mentioned gun of choice too.
Your money , your taste...

Nice.. Thanks a lot guys! Was looking mostly for hunting deer and birds. Of course some clay too... I'll take a close look at the Wingmaster as it seems like that's the favored choice here.

wingmaster (an old one) or mossberg 500/590 are the best general shotgun options if you want a pump imo.

personally the mossberg 500 has my heart. the ergonomics of it is what sells me on it. (i have an old lakefield model... read canadian!) love it! for shooting clay's i prefer my ithaca m37 though.

generally speaking the used old ones (as long as they are in good condition) are the better buy. they were made in a time when quality control seemed to matter more.
