Looking to get schooled on Enfield(I think) bayonets

The spike one reads No.4 W I I with a lazy V w/ a B laying in it, on left side

The blade one has some very smaller writing on the top of the square front, that I can't make out.

They both seem to have the same mounting block. Guessing the spike was later on??

The blade was the later version. Both fit No. 4 rifles.

The spike bayonet is a No. 4 Mk II, introduced in 1941.
The blade is a No. 9, introduced in 1949.

Both should fit any No.4 rifle.

You have a good start on a bayonet collection, friend.

All you need now are:

the cruciform (+) Mark 1

the fabricated Mark 2

the fabricated Mark 2 with the straight (not tapered) spike

Each was made by several makers. Actually, you can cover a good chunk of a wall, just with Number 4 bayonets, just by putting up 1 of each.

And THEN you get started on the Pattern of 1888, 1888 Second Model, 1888/1903, 1903, 1907 (several variants and half a dozen makers).

But you have a good start.

They belong to a buddy who's only gun interests are 870's and 10/22's. What would be a reasonable price to both him and I? Already have the 1907 one, I think.

$40 - 50 bucks would be fair,depend's on the marking's on the back of the bayonet frog if it's ww2 Canadian issue.

I have a bayonet for my No4, that superficially looks like an FN bayonet, where the blade reveses 180 degrees opposite the handle and then mounts on the barrel.

Sounds like an Enfield No.7 MKI bayonet

That's a Bayonet, No 7 Mk I, most likely with a brown bakelite handle.

Can't confirm but have been told this was used solely for ceremonial purposes mainly by the Governor General's Foot Guards in Ottawa.

The blade will fit in the FN scabbard and the scabbard will fit the P51 frog.

I have one too! Its actually a resin-impregnated cloth used for the handle. Mine has the OD green "jungle paint" on it.
