My Father thinks it's an Iver Johnson too but I haven't found a pic of an I-J (or H&R) with the squared rear trigger guard. That seems like a Smith & Wesson thing but haven't found a matching pic yet either.

I would say its more of a Charles Clement Top Break Automatic Ejecting, still classified as prohib. Manf from 1886-1914..If I recall ELG with crown is a Belgian merking for Liege

Yes, prohibited and registered as such. As it is a .32 made before 1946 and a direct family member's it can be passed to me and I would be issued a 12(7) license. Under current law at least.
I will look up Charles Clement! I'm not familiar with that name. Thanks!

This one is Belgian. Nothing on its add regarding identification other than that and condition. Same proof marks and grips.

For what it's worth, according to the FRT the "CC" monogram on the grips is a Charles Clement trademark. The ELG in an oval with the crown came into use in July 1893. Prior to that there was no crown. It would have been made in Belgium. FRT indicates these guns were serial numbered but they have no picture of a representative example. These were made from 1886 -1914.

I was going to look up the frt's, but thank god Mag. did it for me.
He is right on , these came into this country and the U.S. like SKS's have been doing last few years.
Is there current paper work on it, if so the frt # would be there.
If not ,it will have to be verified, you can do it on the phone , thou with no info, you may have to send in pictures.

Thanks all!
No, I didn't remove the grips. I will next time I visit my father. He is also going to look for the registration paper, if he remembers. Things aren't always retained at 75 years.
At least I have a good idea what it is now!

Unregistered prohibs cannot be registered - let's hope there's current paper on it.

My father did register it when it became mandatory. I checked his license and the 12(6) is there. As it is the only prohib he has (not even any restricteds) I know there's paper somewhere. When he moved two years ago he arranged an ATT for it.

Be advised that if it is his only prohib, the minute he transfers it to you he will lose his 12.6 status forever. No problem if he has no intention of ever having another but it is suggested that if he wants to maintain his status, he gets some cheap piece of crap prohib gun($25-$50) in order to remain 12(6) or something much better..Just be aware

This is what I wish to do, except the cheapie goes to me first to get licensing in place. He doesn't want to transfer his fathers gun but rather leave it to me as an inheritance. Unless it looks like laws will change.

Keep in mind that the 12(7) class is not a blanket class covering any prohib. It is specific to the particular gun, allowing you to posess it, but not allowing you to go out and acquire additional prohibs. It will be a good start though, to have 1 already in the stable and build from there.
