Looking to learn about the BLR

You could possibly source a 257 Roberts barrel instead of the savage. In my rifle the 308 stamped magazine actually feeds the 257 Roberts better than the factory stamped Roberts magazine. I don't know what it would take to get the 250 savage to feed properly. If you build it I would probably want to buy it!

I have had pre and post 81 BLR's in 358 Win and 243. All have been capable of MOA accuracy.
Never should have sold the 243, as it was a Belgian rifle. Would love to find a 257 Roberts.
I prefer the pre-81's for their steel receivers. And to me, the nicer lines of the action (as compared to the newer LWT's). And I also prefer the straight grip over the pistol grip. Again, this is just my preference.
Great rifles that are fun to carry and shoot! Quick, and handy.
Yes, triggers are heavy, but once you learn yours, you can do well with it.
Would actually like to get a T/D and do a switch barrel rig with barrels in 250 Savage and 338 Federal.

Not really possible though in theory the barrels are switchable the action lengths and bolt faces would noi match

Have my gunsmith looking to source the extra barrel BLR T/D mechanism in order to do a switch barrel rig and determine how to do this project. Once this is determined, will pick up a BLR T/D and source an extra barrel. May have to have two different magazines in order to feed the two different cartridges, but may have to look at the internals of the action as well. We'll see...
Like the idea, just need to see if it possible.

Thanks for all the great replies.

I've heard a lot about how horrible these things are to work on. It might be the biggest turn off for me; I'm a tinkerer, and I'd be very tempted to open it up sooner or later.

That's all the information I needed to make sense of the various models.

What I want is a stainless .308 straight stock, which looks like only comes in the takedown version. I've read somewhere that the takedown is beneficial for cleaning breach to muzzle, if you're the type to use a rod instead of a cable or snake.

The newer models are worth considering. I have a BLR Lightweight takedown in 308. Solid gun

I wanted one in 358, but couldn't source one. But I'm happy with the 308

I have one in 450 marlin, stainless in pistol grip. I got it used on a trade. I ripped it apart when I got it, cleaned her all nice nice. It's a tad intimidating to put back together. Be mindfull of the three pins lol. It can really only be put back together a certain way. I use mine for black bear. I really like it. Great bush gun....iron sights.

I have a 300wsm pistol grip stainless/laminate... it recoils but isn't ridiculous IMO. I had the trigger and action done by a great gunsmith who last I asked will never do another lol.

I had it apart once... took me the better part of a day to figure out the timing and how to get it back together.
