Hello All,
I'm very interested in getting into some precision long range shooting for f-class competitions but for fun to start. I'm in Kingston area and wondering if there are any courses or classes available in the area in which I would be willing to travel some or if there was some knowledgeable shooters in the area who would be interested in passing on there knowledge or taking on an apprentice. If anybody at least has some info or could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Kingston Club

Regular practices are held at the Barriefield Range, 65 Craftsman Blvd. Kingston Ontario, located within the confines of CFB Kingston. Practices are shot between 300 and 600 yards based on the needs of the shooters at the time. In addition to regular practices Kingston hosts 2 matches a year which fill to capacity quickly, so book early to reserve a spot.

We invite all our members to attend a practice or match in Kingston while your family is off enjoying historic downtown Kingston and the waterfront.

please do not start down that road, ; ' )

it will lead to

1. long nights pointing bulets and less ###,

2. new friends that you actually have fun with

3. money spent on new powder, barrels, custom actions, and less for diamond rings and booze

4. travelling many miles to a deserted part of canada and the USA only to be beat by shooters that have spent more on equipment

and many many more things I want to discuss with you in person so I can sell you a bunch of stuff I want ot get rid of

just joking welcome and you will enjoy it, just remeber it may take a while to learn and become better than your new friends

and please unless you are made of money start with components and learn the sport as trying to buy the best may make you build 5 guns for every time you see a nice one you drool and you are much to young to be wiping your face all day every day with lust

Welcome to "our" world . Living where you do ,you have an exceptional range and some good people to introduce you
to the sport. There are a great many options and ten times as many opinions that you will be faced with in your future.
Beware that some of these people are like dope pushers. They'll get you in, you'll have a F"ing great time, and they'll get you addicted.
Just saying,I warned you...
If you're going to succumb to the temptations, it's advantageous to get the spouse hooked as well. They could keep you from
severely overdosing :)
Get ahold of Mark and the Kingston "gang" and get a copy of the Kingston range schedule. See if you can get one of them to give you
some time in on the Kingston range and intro into F "before" the Vic Day Matches at Connaught Range.
There are some websites (although not always the most user friendly ) that you can visit.

http://www.ontariorifleassociation.ca/
http://www.ncrra.ca/
also some intro articles...Jeff wrote this one some time ago but still good reading
http://www.6mmbr.com/gunweek063.html

Always good to have some prep done and confirmed before the Vic. matches at Connaught in May.
Have you decided which group of F'ing Nutz to join yet? F Open or FTR
What "equipment" do you currently own and shoot that could be utilized and developed?

Anyways....welcome.
Be sure to introduce yourself if you get to the Vic Day Matches.

Sorry for the late reply Gord O. I'm fairly new to rifle other than a bit of 22LR shooting. I've hunted for a bit but all shotgun. I own several Shotguns 12G Ithica featherweight, 12G Mossberg 835 Tactical Turkey, 12G single shot Lefever Long Range Trap and Field break barrel, Old Cooey Model 60 22LR, Pre 64 (56 and like new only ever had a few boxes through it) winchester model 94 32. WIN SPL, and my crown jewel, the gun that won the west, my Winchester 1873(1844) 44-40. I had it rebuilt it was in rough shape. It was my grandfathers or great grandfathers. Also I just ordered a Browning X-bolt special edition hunter in 30-06. Which I will have to sight in once it arrives.

So I have nothing I could actually use as an F-Class rig but I was thinking of possibly starting with .308 or most likely 6MMBR for F-class. To start at least anyway ;). So I'll definatley need an introduction to the sport and definitely need some pointers, possibly complete redirecting lol. Any thoughts of where to start.

If you can make it out to a practice . It is amazing what you can learn in even one day . If you are looking at the 6br or 308 they are both excellent rounds . Myself I like the 6 for ease of shooting .
Hope to see on the range some time . :)

Conrad,
You've started the process correctly,,,,investigating before spending.
Choices of caliber will dedicate which of the 2 types of F Class you'd shoot.
308 is a great start into the FTR aspect where the 6BR (another great cartridge) would land you in with us
F Open shooters.
Both Open and FTR provide for great times and perfect for the development process .Both have their own
chalenges and require some differences in equipment .
Lots of articles available online regarding F Class as well as general long range shooting.
Once you get a wee bit better idea of the choices and see /visit/experience Kingston range and chat
with some of the experienced shooters, you can "shop to you drop" with a clearly defined list.
Better to buy right, the first time….
Snow's melting…..now if it would only WARM up.
Go 4 it and we'll see you on the range this summer.

There's been quite some discussions about establishing/re-establishing the FACTORY Class with lots of ideas .
Not sure what the final outcome is and what the "powers" will decide . Entry numbers (demand) will have a lot to
do with it I think.
