Looking to legally shorten a pistol barrel to 106mm.

They are designed to be carried just like a glock.
The fact that they can be decocked is merely an extra feature

Maybe but at least the glock and ppq have the safety trigger fwiw. Anyway not like it is difficult to decock the p99 and I like having that option.

Dave G, thank you for the clarification.

Gundoggy, to me I just can't justify thhe extra cost and cumbersome parts for something I won't use. Either I have a round in because I'm about to shoot, or I don't. I can get it out of the holster and #### it in practically one motion, and it's not like I'm patrolling or going on a raid expecting imminent contact when I need extra options.

I really liked my p99 until I got my PPQ. PPQ is one of my favourite pistols. Simpler and for me, better trigger. PPQ also comes with metal sights. Like you, I hate the extended barrel. It's worth it to pay to get it trimmed.

I holster my P99 in the AS mode....long single action is best way to describe it. After shooting, I have to draw back slide a fraction of an inch to reset AS mode before holstering, or decock for DA. PPQ avoids this with simpler trigger.

The PPQ is 'rougher' in appearance vs. the P99 however.

I checked with Murray Charlton. He said send him the barrel AND the slide and he would trim it. It would end up just like the P99AS in Canada.
Walthers actually look not bad with 106mm barrel as the barrel sits further back than other pistol makes, resulting in less barrel sticking out.

If we were allowed suppressors I'd leave it alone. Also Walther PPQ barrel has a right hand twist thread so cap loosens with shooting.

There won't be any threads left over. Put a P99 and PPQ barrel side by side...the portion of the threading starts past 107mm on the PPQ barrel.

I used to think putting a P99 barrel would work but there is a VERY minor difference in locking lugs on bottom of barrel chamber, hence the need to cut the barrel on the PPQ vs. a simple barrel change.

I would love to do the same...love the gun, hate the threaded bit.

Mind if I ask what he quoted you on the work.

Hmmm.... I measured both my P99 and PPQ barrel the Canadian Way....measure with a wooden stick down barrel to breech face. Walthers seem to have a few mm space (over 2mm) from throat to breech face. On my PPQ it's pretty close to the thread for 105+mm.

If one is concerned safest way (more costly) is to order an unthreaded extended barrel from Jarvis in the US....Irunguns to import...then get someone to trim to Canada legal length. There seems to be a slight difference in Slide length. One could ship barrel + slide to gunsmith to double check first.

PPQ barrel measured Canadian way is a bit over 118 mm. Threaded portion is a bit over 12mm. It will be very tight.

OK.

I called Jarvis Custom barrels in USA. Cost of 'extended' barrel is $225 USD. They will cut them to 105mm, you need to send a money order with instructions to them....really old fashioned company...no email!!! They also said add $20 USD to ship to exporter....Irunguns would be my first choice.

This way, you get a barrel with no risk of threads left. 105mm measured US way would be about 107-108mm measured the Canadian way. I would not mess around and order under 105mm as your breach space may vary from gun to gun.

Hello, thank you for checking up on this for me, but that seems pretty labour intensive, not to mention PITA and cost-wise. The pistol is already going to be close to $1k before it gets to my door, so I'm not in a hurry to spend another $300+ after currency exchange, s/h to IRG, brokerage fees, s/h to me, etc. I guess the one benefit would be having two barrels at that point, a custom one and the stock threaded barrel, but I'd really prefer to spend less money and just have one barrel if possible.

if it comes down to having a couple mm of threads left, it wouldn't be as ideal as a nicely crowned finish, but it would be better than what it looks like now.

You have to pay to play, or get what you want. Personally I just had 106mm barrel made for me by KKM precision in the US for my Glock 19 to replace the threaded barrel it came with, $165 US for the barrel and $10 shipping to IRG for export. I have a lot of other parts already being exported at the same time, so Im not just paying to get the barrel itself exported and imported. Either way I would have payed whatever it took because I really wanted it...
