Hey guys, been running a vortex strike eagle 1-6X on my ACR for a while but I'm looking to upgrade.

My issue with the strike eagle is too heavy and bulky and the glass isn't great. I do like that it was cheap and has a BDC reticle but that's about it.

Can anyone recommend something comparable but smaller/lighter, ideally 1-8X or similar with a BDC, FFP would be nice too.

thanks

Generally a high quality 1-8 will be heavier than the strike eagle. U.S. Optics is one of the lighter options if I remember correctly. There is also the new Trijicon that looks fairly decent, but I've never tried it. The Bushnell SMRS 1-8.5 is really nice too but it is a tank.

I wouldn't mind a 1-6X or even a 1-4X to keep the weight down.

Was even considering a 4X fix ACOG, they look a lot lighter

Lol obviously you haven't held a real ACOG they are stupid heavy for the most part and have a horrible eye box for the price paid. If you find the Strike eagle heavy you are going to have issues with most glass out there. If you want higher quality I'd go Vortex PST 1-6x for about 1000$ (This is what I own and run and cost/weight/quality one of the best out there right now) and then to a trijicon 1-6x or 1-8x for 1700$+ Alsmost every optic out there till you get to 3K+ price tags weight follows quality.

Best way to dump weight is if you don't need the cant mount ditch it for light rings like the ATRS then start dropping unneeded pieces off the gun.

Very informative, and you're right, I've never handled a real ACOG before, thanks for the heads up.

The Strike Eagle is basically the lightest scope on the market of 1-4 through 1-8. The only thing at similar weight and better glass is a Swaro 1-6 or 1-8.

For minimal Weight Savings Trijicon Accupoint 1-4 or Bushnell 1-4 AR

Personally i'd give up a bit of weight for the better magnification of a 1-6x

Interesting you mentioned the glass, aside from the Razor line, the only Vortex optic i didn't think had #### glass was the Strike Eagle i checked out.

It's not horrible glass, maybe I'm just being picky, but it does have a slight tint to it. I just wish it wasn't so big

The Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x weighs 17.6 ozs while the 1-8x weighs 16.5. The Leupold VX-r Patrol 1.25-4x weighs 11.5 ozs. I have the VX-R Patrol and it is optically very good, it is also an inch shorter in length than the Vortex
