Yes I know it will probably be more expensive in the long run but it is easier on the wallet month to month and I feel it will be more satisfying .

So what are people's recomendations for only dealers to purchase parts for the build from ? looking at the main parts right now ie: barrels, uppers , lowers and parts to tie all these together . Will worry about the stock, grips , sights and hand guards later. Thanks for any suggestions

Dealers comments welcome but would prefer customers who have done builds themselves

Watch the EE. I have bought just about everything AR from the EE.

Sometimes there are great deals to be had, sometimes not.... Sometimes you can buy items cheaper from the dealers...

I should mention that I get most of the smaller things from Brownells. Just plan your order out and try and shoot for $99.99 then add the things like slings and weaponlights to the order to keep the shipping down.

Scroll down and read all the posts in the Black and Green Rifle section, there are a lot of threads of people showing off their builds and other asking the same question as you.

There are simply too many choice and it is all based on personal taste and opinions, personally I would just save your money and buy a good base AR and upgarde it along the way as you grow with it.

What length of barrel are you interested in?

14.5-16" is what I am thinking , don't like the super short ones and don't see the need for a longer one.

And to the guy saying check out other peoples builds ,not asking what other people have or like ,just what dealers would be best to look at and deal with for parts

SFRC is real close to you and they carry all of our AR components. Tough prices to beat. Ryan & crew are top notch to deal with as well.

Like Darren said watch the EE it's how I built my AR (BTW Thanks Darren for the upper, Mac for the Eotech, and Jackyiscxd for the rear sight!) lol

You could also take a road trip down to see us, have a good coffee from the coffee shop at the front of the store.

Then enjoy the coffee while looking over the Magpul, Daniel Defense, Knights Armament, Cadex, S&J Hardware and other parts.

Or lounge on the leather couch watching movies, while picking our brain on builds.

Once you get everything together (from us or elsewhere) bring them down and we'll help you put it together.

Plus we have the best Thai/Sushi place anywhere, which is right across the street ;)

Ohhh can you open a shop here in the west coast . : )

get a Brownell's FREE AR Catalog so you can get a good feel of what you are looking to build.

Just passing on a tip that was made to me when i was in the same boat as you :) but i still do not own a AR :( yet hehe

Questar, Brownells and Wolverine is where I went to source the bulk of my parts... Then got some miscellaneous things from One Shot and Fabsports

I'm gonna be in the market for an 18 or 20" 5.56 barrel later this year though... Thinking of doing an M16 style build.... Might go visit One Shot.... Sounds like a homey experience

On Brownell's website, they have an AR Builder so you can see what the different options will look like on an AR...I have ordered from Brownells many times in the past...they are great to deal with. However, SFRC and One Shot are close and they have an excellent selection...definetly worth your while!

Doesn't have to be... I'm acquiring parts for a build right now. All I have left is the barrel to buy. In the end I will have a Cerro Forged upper, Armalite lower, a Stag Arms F/A BCG and milspec parts for $1000, not including some of the minor accessories that aren't required for the gun, but go to the look. Even with those I'll be between $1100 and $1200 all in, built.

If you take your time, you can must up a really nice rifle on the cheap here using the EE. You just gotta be patient.

You guys should relocate to Saskatoon! We're pretty much in the middle of the country so shipping east or west is only half way across the country! Then I could move in during business hours!!

We are in the process of renovating the upstairs as well. ;)

Unfortunately we been told that alcohol and cigars aren't allowed?!?!?!?!
