I am partially disabled. Wondering if there is someone in the Vancouver area that would willing to take me out for an hour or two so I can try shooting clays. I belong to Mission and The Range Langley. I live in Richmond, so quite close to the Vancouver Gun Club. When I shoot pistols or rifles, I sit. I am not really steady enough anymore to shoot standing because of my disability. I can most likely handle a shot gun standing, but would like to try first and see how it goes. If I can't handle standing comfortably, and safely, I also have a walker that I can use to sit and try it that way. I will of course be willing to compensate for your time and expertise. Please pm if you are willing to help me out.

I have shot trap with many people that were partially disabled or at least needed some help to move around. More power to you. I'm too far away to help out but I'm sure there is somebody in Vancouver or Richmond that would help you.

Terry, I'm not local to you so I can't get involved directly but I would expect you will get numerous offers. I have shot alongside partially disabled shooters many times over the years and I'll guarantee they enjoy the sport and many are very proficient. Trap will be the most straightforward for you, the targets only vary in direction and are predictable for elevation. As long as you have freedom of movement laterally you can become very proficient from a sitting position. A bonus is that trap fields are flat and level. Skeet should also be possible, but more difficult because of the speed of the targets and the very fast target aquisition required. Sporting clays typically covers considerable area and it may be quite challenging to cover the terrain on some courses although you should be able to handle the targets fine. Because you will be shooting from a position ( sitting) where full pivoting will be restricted you might find a simple chair with no arms will work best for you. Have fun.

I'm not local to you either or I'd be willing to help but I'm sure there must be some one close by who can. Maybe you should contact some of the organizers at a club near you and explain what you'd like to do. The organizers at the clubs I belong to would go out of their way to help if a request was made.
Over the years I've seen lots of guys with disabilities shoot and I've seen more than one guy who has trouble standing take a seat or stool with him from station to station on the trap line.

I don't see any reason you can't shoot trap, skeet or 5-stand from a seated position. When we built the 5-stand stations at my club (it's in Ontario), we designed them so a person in a wheelchair could use them. I think I can speak for the others in saying we would do everything we can to accommodate someone who wants to shoot. We've even carried a member up and down the stairs in his wheelchair to get him inside the clubhouse.

As was pointed out, trap and skeet should not be an issue at all if you can get to the field. I hope you can find a range that works for you.
