I posted in the rimfire section, but haven't had any response. I picked up a Winchester 9422 magnum. It looks to be very little use, but has very slight movement barrel to receiver.

I've been doing some Googling, and have read many different repair methods, although nothing specific to a 9422. Everything from knurling the barrel, peening it with a centre punch, JB weld, black Loctite, or even epoxy.

Anyone here have any experience with such a repair?

I had an old marlin once where the barrel could be completely unscrewed by hand. I just removed it and carefully hammered the shoulder edge, where the barrel meets the receiver. DO NOT damage the threads or barrel face! I found that after screwing it back on and re-hammering I got it to where the front sight was perfectly aligned. Then you can lightly tack weld or stake the shoulder to receiver on the bottom under the forearm.

Several different Loctite products would tighten it up... the one for loose fit bearings would work. It should 'wick' in and set up in 20 minutes...

It is press fit with a retaining pin.
Worst case scenario is that the receiver has developed a crack allowing for the loose barrel. If not, check to see if the pin is still there. You can try thread locker first and see if that solves the issue. You may have to drill it out for a larger pin. If so, use thread locker as well.

This seems to me to be a really good option and the least risk, as well as the least work. Auto parts place. NAPA/LordCo/CTire etc. Any place that stocks Locktite product line stuff.

A bonding agent would be a god idea.
Inspect it, and see if there is an underlying problem.
There is a taper pin. Might be worth tapping it in to tighten things.
