Loose fore-end on Coooey 84

Remove the rear hardware from the fore end. Cut a piece of black plastic ( I used a plastic lid off of a can of coffee) into a gasket to fit between the hardware and fore stock. Re install hardware and final trim with sharp knife or exacto. This added tension to the fore stock and took any wobble out of the action when the gun was open. I believe it makes up for wood shrinkage over the past 50 years.

BINGO! Did two things to get it tight. First I put a 1/32" brass shim between the wood and metal as recommended by Madtrapper and that helped. Then I peened the area of the notch in the barrel underlug to further tighten the fit between the barrel underlug and the hinged lever of the fore-end iron. I have three barrels fitted to the same receiver so wanted all three barrels to facilitate a tight forend fit so worked on the lugs a bit in addition to the shim. All good to go now....
