Loose M-14 gas plug?

I've noted that the gas plug on one of my 2007 Martstar '14s has a tendency to loosen while shooting; it's quite pronounced if I finger tighten, but even if I hork the plug in hard with the combo tool it still starts working loose after a while.

I'm planning on swapping plugs with my other '14, but if I experience the same problem, would a dab of blue Loctite be a good solution?

Stop. Put down that Loctite tube!!

Keep a USGI combination M14 tool in the buttstock (where it belongs). Employ it as needed. That was part of the design intention, allowing the gas plug to be field stripped (not necessarily 'self stripping') when needed. ;)

At each match, I would reach into my shooting stool and pull out my combination tool. Just for some peace of mind and insurance, I would give my gas plug a quick 'tug' on the wrench and then stuff my magazines with the necessary number of bullets for the next shooting string/match. IN THAT ORDER ! :D

Leave things alone. Don't modify the gas plug and assembly with Loctite ! If you need a wrench and cannot find a USGI combination tool.... Head over to the dollar store or Princess Auto and find a 3/8" box wrench. Now you are good to go. Keep that in your shooting jacket. Whoops ! I assumed that all of you are using your M14's in a competition context.... My BAD !

Peace be to journey

The combo tool should always been nearby when shooting(whether in the buttstock, on the bench, in your rangebag). It's a combo tool....it is for your gas plug(tightening), unlocking/locking tension on your rear sights and use the curved end for loading by stripper clip.

Less important, it's for disassembly.
