I have a 12g Ruger Red Label shot gun with a loose rib. The rib looks like it slids on to little posts along the barrel but does'nt look like it was soldered on. How can I snug this up so it does'nt rattle on the barrel?
Not sure how the rib is attached to the receiver on you Ruger but on my Daiwa Shadow it had two roll pins . I knocked them out and on top of all those post were shims stock. I increased the thickness of shims slightly and slid the rib back on then put the roll pins back in . I'm sure one of the smiths will chime in here also but that is how I bubba'ed it. Been on there for 8 years now and no problems and I shoot a fair amount of doubles through that gun
The rib is inserted from the muzzle end and fits over each of the posts which are soldered or induction brazed to the barrel. It is held from coming off by the front bead. You can remove (unscrew) the bead and slide the rib off and then clean the channel in the rib and each post and then replace the rib and use some epoxy at the posts. However it is probably just as effective to clean around some of the posts and work some good epoxy into the rib channel at the posts.
