Hey guys. So we have been working with a local company that imports and modifies containers for all sorts of industries and I asked them if they had one small enough, and cheap enough, that I could use as a walk-in gun vault a la the movie Lord of War.

Somewhere I could have everything in one place and have room left over to display some of the nicer ones on wall racks. They said 'Sure, we can do that' !

So I am off this afternoon to look at and discuss making these custom vaults to order if you guys are interested. Nothing is finalized but the one I would be most interested in is the 7 foot unit with the dimensions of :

7.3 Long x 5.7 Wide x 6.3 High. These are small enough to fit into a standard garage door but big enough that I could get rid of the three safes and consolidate everything into one walk-in.

Good idea ? Crap idea ? Let me know what you guys think. I'm looking for good, constructive ideas please, so keep it on topic and give me some food for thought !

They would come from the manufacturer listed specifically as 'Firearms Vault' and be kitted with a very sild lock box on the front. We are also considering the options like :

-Welded in vault door
-Installed lighting
-Installed bench or racking system
-Installed wiring for your custom ideas
-Firearm specific wall racks for displaying your pride and joy
-LED back lighting
-Installed alarm system

There are no limits as to what we could do with them. And because the small size unit will easily slip into a garage it would seem fairly incognito even if a passerby noticed it.

I am off with Joe now to see these in person and will let y'all know tomorrow what the plan is.

Some serious questions.
-once they easily slipped into a regular garage, what is next?
-will it be permanently stay in garage and store your guns there?
-can they be installed in basement? Break it down to several pieces and reinstall in basement? Just like Snapsafe.

Unfortunately, no. These are solid one piece units and if you don't have a garage or barn a massively wide set of stairs it's not going into a basement. Unless you're a welder that is and want to put in the effort to cut it in half then reassemble it.

As for cost, the base unit, just the box, is about $4200.00. I will be looking at internal mods and let you know the pricing in a week or two I hope.

Just looked at them in person and they are so sweet. Taller than I thought on the inside, a 6' 2" person will just fit. For us normal sized folk there's headroom to spare ( :

Love it!

But I've seen nationals in PNG cut their way into welded shut 20' containers without power tools or torches. Just cold chisels and ssledgehammers and lots of noise.

Years ago when I was in the trucking industry I cut into one with an axe. Not much effort either.

All that said I think it’s a freaking cool idea.

You could probably stick a small heater in it and that'll deal with a lot of moisture concerns, add a dehumidifier to be sure.
Small space, neither needs to be big.

I don't hate the idea, the outside needs to be fitted with shelving or something to utilize the space.
You can store crap on top of it too I assume.

I am now picturing one of these in my garden shed lol
