Lord of War Type Container Vault Interest ?

More about changing the dew point than humidity or heating.
Golden rods don't actually remove any moisture. They work by raising the internal temperature of the safe and contents and thus raising the dew point, decreasing moisture from collecting on objects. They claim that the warm air created by the rod escapes out the top of your safe, driving the moisture out with it. Cooler air then enters the safe from the bottom of your door seal and the process continues.

watch the overall height if the intention is they fit through the garage door. They are surprisingly low

The little units I am looking at are 78.75" tall. I measured my standard garage door fully open and it is 83" and a bit. This is more than enough to slide the unit in and then a simple jack underneath and onto some skates once inside the garage. I figure once it's inside I will tuck it into a corner and park my KTM and some boxes in front and no one will be the wiser.

We actually have a shop fellow here that is an electrician by trade so we have that all sorted out. Looking to get some custom panels made, possibly from old aircraft skins, and will then figure out back lighting them with LEDs and holes for gun hangers. Should be pretty slick once it's all set up. A cleaning / working bench on one side is a must as well as a mannequin to hang all the armour on and provide meaningless psycho-babble in the background...I shall call him : F***-A-Chino in honour of our good friend Marco....

hexavalent chromium, something to think about if doing fab work with said panel. Sorta like CARC paint on military vehicles. Do some reading if you go that route

You can get these in 6' and 10' lengths. Depending on the length of the container, I'd run 2 side by side down the middle with leopard print vinyl plank overtop. May as well make it spicy.

That's wicked. Two of the 3' x 5' units would almost give you full coverage and would heat the interior very well. Actually not sure but you could probably get away with just one of them since the interior space is fairly small.

You’d want two. As much coverage as possible. These will likely be used as “the dog house” from time to time. So there’s a good chance people will have to sleep on the floor. This is the way.

For a number of years a 40-foot Seacan, spray foamed and wood-floored, was my "office" in northern Manitoba...where -30 or -40 and sometimes even colder is definitely a "thing". Standard pedestrian doors cut and installed into each end. A couple of space heaters inside would get that thing far beyond comfortable inside, to the point where they would need to be turned down quite a bit if the doors were not opened frequently.

I love the idea of this container as described in the OP, but...most guys are talking about it as though it's a room that they think they will kick back and relax in. It's not; anybody who actually gets one likely has way more toys than the paltry few shown in the original posted pic. By the time you add insulation and then some kind of rack system on at least one side to hold your toys, there's not a lot of space to stretch out in. Guns on both sides? They're likely arranged vertically, with grips and stocks and other pointy things sticking into the centre of the "room". No realistic space for chairs or anything else, really.

Inside height 72 inches. Subtract a couple of inches at both top and bottom for insulation, flooring, etc. and most people can't even stand up straight inside there. Not a nice place to spend time.

A mannequin? Fat chance.

The original pic shows a cute little workbench near the door on the right side. But...just eyeballing the scale of the pic and keeping in mind the dimensions...that bench is, what, maybe 15 inches deep? Have you ever tried to do any work on a 15-inch-deep bench, lol? It's just a waste of the tiny amount of space you have to work with in there; I'd bet folding money that a guy who purchased the unit as shown would literally never choose to use that work bench as anything other than a storage shelf...until he finally decided to rip it out altogether.

I can see vertical gun storage along one side, with some combination of vertical racks and shallow shelves on the other side as desired, and maybe some larger shelves at the back end...maybe...

This is not a small, comfy-cozy room in which to sit and play with or work on your guns. It's a medium-sized walk-in closet for safe storage of them, allowing pretty nice, easy access to any individual item without needing to move a dozen others. I'm not being negative here, I love the idea, but expectations need to be realistic.

edited to add: Oops...just saw how old this thread is. Any updates on this idea?

Would be worthwhile if some sort of HVAC for environment management is added. Wouldn't want it to become a rust box of ruined boomsticks.

The dimensions in the first post seem very small, a very small bathroom type size.

Smallest containers for sale around here are 10 feet long.

That is a great idea. The only thing I would suggest is as follows:

1. Reloading area
2. Storage for ammo so it would be separate and locked since firearms would be in same container
3. Perhaps a clean slate with options to purchase specific things to make it your own design
4. Humidity/air circulation for hotter climates to alleviate rust/corrosion issues.

Other than that and I am sure that this has already been planned.
Great idea, cannot wait for the final product to plan for my own.

Could a biometric lock be used on the door and a small fire suppression system also be installed? What about a window or a hatch, for ventilation when inside? Would also be cool if you could have it double as a safe room.

If a person had a double garage, and was prepared to devote half of it to secure storage, a 20 foot sea can could be used. Lots of secure walk-in storage.
