Hey guys so yesterday me and the boys went out to the range with a bunch of guns including my VZ and proceeded to throw some lead down range at a human silhouette gong about 140 yards away. I didn't stop shooting for longer than 5 minutes for almost an hour and a half and threw about 150 rounds. I was hitting the gong damn near every shot until the last 25 rounds I didn't hit it once. It was about -2 out, and when I touched the barrel with my gloved hands I could tell it was pretty damn hot. Now I have a 2014 CSA vz58, with a CSA low side scope mount, and a eotech xps2 red dot on it. My question is can a barrel get that hot only after 150 rounds that I can't even hit a human at 140 yards. I went home after the range and cleaned the gun, I decided to put some blue thread lock on my eotech thinking it might have moved a bit and my scope mount was also tight. I know heat does open up a group but I have never shot that many rounds that quickly to notice it. So help me out with your expertise
Cheers

That is perfectly normal for something like that to happen. The vz 58's aren't a bull barrel so they will heat up really quickly. I've seen guns open up to over 5 M.O.A from getting hot.

I've shot mine until the barrel is way too hot to touch. While it's no sniper for accuracy, it still hits an 8 inch gong at 200m even with the hot barrel. But, I agree, accuracy does suffer shooting that much.

Ya but I wasn't hitting a 2ft gong, all day I was doing 4 of 5 and then usually getting a flyer. All standing up as well. No bench rest. Just was weird that all the sudden I was hitting it all day and the next I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. I felt it had to do with my optics coming loose a bit but they seemed on there tight

Its possible your shooting wained (sp?) off towards the end. Shooting long strings makes it hard to keep yourself consistent. I've never shot a VZ off the bench so I can only assume groups open up as it heats up. This is very common for rifles without floating hand guards especially gas semi's that have a lot touching the barrel, vibrating and moving from shot to shot. If you get ambitious you could throw it on a bench and shoot some groups then heat it up and see if groups open up.

It was probably a combo of your barrel getting hot and your optic mount coming loose or loosing zero.

All it would take with my old CZ 858 was 30 rounds of fast shooting then bench rest it and be in shock how its opened up from 4MOA to 6MOA.
