Just got back from the vet with ####ty news.

My ol' dog Maggie is full of cancer and on her last legs.

She never went hunting but rarely missed a skinning or meating cutting session at the house and she loves to chew on goose feet (that's why I put this thread here and not in off topics).

She's a 12 year old German Shepard/Beagle and has been a hell of a pet.

To say the least, I'm not looking forward to putting her down.

It has to be done and she's not suffering yet (she's slow but not whining or laying around) and she's eating and drinking but I'll have to watch her close.

No way am I going to let her go too long. The ol girl deserves to go peacefully.

Dam.

I am so sorry.:(
I have had to put some family pets down and it was a very difficult but necessary decision.
Every time I stayed with my pet’s for both it’s comfort and also I felt I owed it my presence.
The decision between quality of life and suffering is a hard one to quantify, and my
heart goes out to you.

I wish I could give words to console and ease your pain but unfortunately these
moments are so personal and private that I realize any words of mine will only trivialize
the love and devotion one has for a family pet.

My best
Timo

So sorry to hear that :( :( :(

I just had to put my best friend down after 14 years, it was very hard on my wife and I.

Try and stay strong! The best advice I can give is to remember all the good times you had with Maggie.

:(

I've been exactly where you're sitting friend, I feel your pain. It's been almost 3 years since I lost my four-legged right-hand man to cancer I still think about him often but not always with sadness.

We let him go as long as we could. Once he stopped eating we took him to the vet and the last thing he saw was the family that adored him.

My sincre condolences.

I feel for you Mumptia. I had to put my heeler down a couple of years ago, it hurt like nothing I've ever felt before. My wife bought me a new puppy right away though. Do the right thing man, be with her when she goes, 'cause you know she would do it for you. :(

When the time comes, see if your vet will come to the house. Ours did for both of our dogs, it was comforting, at least to us, that they could drift off in their favourite spot and in our arms. Neither of them liked the vets office much either, so this way they were completely calm and happy. I feel for you man, but you will always remember all the times yand fun you and she had over the years. Everything will be ok.

Sorry to hear about it. I just want to repeat what H WALLY said about having the vet come out instead of putting Maggie through a trip to the vet's office. I've never met a dog that wasn't frightened of those places. Set it up with a vet to come out when the time is right and also ask for the name of an alternative vet, in case they are on holidays when the time comes. That is what happen to us when we had to put down my dear old dog. I hope it all goes as well as it can. Best wishes, Marshall

Thanks everyone.

I figured some here could relate.

No question about it. I'll be there and most likely my two oldest sons.

That's a good idea.

Biggest problem now is my wife of all people. She never give that dog the time of day as long as I was home and she's having the hardest time with it.

When the time comes, she'll underdstand.

I lost my old girl last Nov and know how painful a decision it is. Get the vet to come to your home, that is what we did. Just remember you are doing this for them because you love them.

Sucks Mumptia. I am there with my pet right now. Just seeing how it all turns out but it looks like his time has come.

I know, I'm watching every move she makes and am turning into a paranoid nutcase.

We bought a pup a year ago because we knew the end was coming sometime and the pup is driving her nuts. Is she ever putting it in its place. Some funny to watch:D

The pup (Max) is a german shepard / husky / black lab cross and is weighing in at around 100lbs right now (Maggie is only 70 and pounding him).

Hello Mumptia.
Sorry to read about Maggie and her condition. Brings back memories of our last Dog who was 17 years old when the Vet gave us the sad news and we had to accept the fact that we were loosing him. For days after I found myself going to the back door at bed time to let the dog out ......He was a faithful friend.
Good luck with Max. Hold on to the good times with Magie
