Lost and found while in the great outdoors

I've lost a round of ammo or two out coyote hunting, dropped into the snow & gone forever. Found an insulated Elmer Fudd hat once while out hunting...my dad still wears it while working out in the cold.

Last year I dropped 4 AA rechargable batteries out of my camera in a dirty tall grass creek bed area. They were expensive batteries, so I went looking for them and surprisingly, I found them the next day. Have also dropped a few shotgun shells over the years, this year I dropped my ammo pouch but found it quickly since there was only a small area where it could have fallen.....

my great uncles had told me a storey about when they were young (aprox45yrs ago). they chopped a O/U 12gauge down and turned it into a pistol grip to use as bear defence when grouse hunting and it stayd in the front box of the quad all year long. well they were out and they wanted to see 2what it would be like to shoot some SSG's. i guess he grabed both triggers and the barrels came up and smacked him in the forhead and cut him open. his words were F**K that idea and he grabbed the barrel and heaved it down the cliff into the bush. everytime i go back the the spot they say it happened i crawl down the cliff and try to find it. still nothing.

It was far less than 45 years ago that we used a 90 cc Honda three wheeler for game retrieval and at the time thought it was the cats meow, lol

I still have an old Kawasaki Sasquatch for those that remember them....

Two buddies flipped the canoe while duck hunting... One lost ONE of his rubber boots...

The next year, another buddy & I were canoeing into the same spot, just a couple km's downstream...

My buddy says, "Hey, look, a boot!"... We turned around, picked up the boot, looking to tease our buddy about finding his old boot...

Well, he got the last laugh, he actually KEPT the other boot EVEN THOUGH he had lost one in the swamp & he continued using those boots!

HA HA, sh1t happens!

Cheers

the only thing I think I've ever lost are a bunch of arrows. They sure aren't easy to find. Especially in a wheat field on a windy day. I think I will buy a metal detector. I hate the thought of someone running over my arrow and getting a flat or something like that. I don't lose much when I'm hunting. I safety pin the zippers on my packs or clip things with carabiners. Whenever I stumble or stop to do my business I take a good look around before I move on. It seems like that is when most people lose things. If I ever see a gut pile I always have a good look around. I've found a couple knives that way. I guess I should leave them in case somebody comes back to look but finders keepers. I spend too much on gear to be careless with it in the field.

Every time these threads come up I am pained to remember losing my grandfather's solid gold Longines watch. He received it as a parting gift from one of the companies he worked at - Marston Excelsior. It was inscribed along with the year he received it - 1948. I like to think he thought me unworthy and took it back.

Had a friend of mine drop his glasses into a hole while setting an ice fishing line, lo and behold pulling up the line a little while later his glasses were hanging on the hook! One in a million chance.

Not lost while hunting but in the summer I was at a cottage with my girlfriend and some of her friends. We went out in the boat tubing and they pestered me into giving it a go (I can swim very well and have no issues with it I just elect not to, swim/go in the water, it does nothing for me) so I strap on the life jacket and am about to jump in when I take off turn back into the boat and go to hand my 300 dollar ray bans to my girlfriend. Next thing I know I see them hit the water and less than a second later I'm out of the life jacket an in after em. Now given that I don't swim I certainly don't open my eyes under water so I swipe across with my arms to try an get em but no dice. In a panic I open my eyes an "sh*t there they are" I grab em up and away I go. Close call especially since my dad had recently replaced my original pair of those sunglasses after he ran em over with his truck.

While hauling a fridge from the cabin into town on a skimmer I broke the golden rule and did not put my Leatherman back on my belt. About halfway back I remembered and sure enough it was gone from where I had placed it on the skimmer. I wrote the Leatherman off as I am sure many of you have over the years. About six weeks later we were heading out to the cabin on the same sled track and my buddy forgot his ski poles. We stopped to unhook so I could run back to the truck and get them. There it was melted into the snow in the open position in the middle of the trail. BS luck.

I lost two prawn setups in 300 feet of water near the mouth of the Work Channel. The next season I found one of them tangled up in a setup we had put down the evening before. A week later another buddy picked up my other one. That was major BS luck. There were a bunch of shells in there.
