Well I was out tonight and had these pictures on the camera. I think its quite obvious where I hit this deer. What you see would be the exit side, Way to high and way to far back. I must have jumped or something, quite incredible that shes still walking. This is the first shes been back in roughly a week

Yep I cant figure out how i shoot so far back she was on a slight angle, so the entry would have been slightly more towards the head. Then there's the height of the shot :0

A shame but happens/will happen to us all, hopefully you get to see her again soon. Just a little over a week since injured (comparing to other thread you posted about it). Just because it's alive now doesn't mean it'll survive, may have issues from the shot or die from an infection or something (always possible). Plus I'm sure it doesn't feel pleasant to walk around with 2 holes in you.

That's one thing that truly sucks and is frustrating, when things get away injured. As well as when can't track it down, which isn't as bad because at least it might be dead. Personally rather have it dead and lost then injured, nature will still make use of it.
As for the backstraps, sucks, but not really the issue. :p

The 5X4 buck I got this year had a very similar wound...maybe a touch lower. The hide was all healed up, still had a hole through his flanks. His intestines were all intact. He was fine till I put one through his neck. Deer can heal from some nasty wounds.

Russ...

From what I see I cannot believe their was not more serious spine damage. I am guessing you were up in a tree stand. What caliber rifle were you using?

As a side note, dang those Tasco trail cams take poor pic's, not trying to offend you, just an observation, I always check out what camera is used when someone posts a pic.

I do commend you on posting this thread, not many people post hunting errors, and they do happen, so good on you for being honest.

The tasco cameras take decent day pictures but the flash range and sensing distance suck.
