Long shot here but I figure it can't hurt. Was out looking for rabbits today and came back short one of my dogs. He never goes for long but we (my other dog and I) spent five hours, walking, took a few hour break and when back out. Still no luck. going to get another early start in the morning again. Hoping for a long shot, if anyone here is from Norfolk County he went missing near Walsh. If anyone is out, could you keep an eye open? Thanks.

Sorry, missed the most important part! I'm a little worried, that's all! He's a blonde lab cross (looks mostly lab, all yellow) about 70 lbs but should be a little lighter. He's friendly but may give you a bit of a bark, after all he's nine and can get a bit grumpy at times! Calls went into the canine control tonight, vets and pet stores in the morning, and another walk too. Tried to post a pic but it's not as straight forward as I need it to be. I can send one to some one if they can post it for me.

Here is the pic. I hope this helps. Good luck to you Mark.

Zeke is back home. Made a new friend, avoided the cold and got his belly full too. He didn't make out to bad, considering I see a "would you hunt dog" post a little above this one!

Thanks for the help and concern, it's good to have him back!

I can tell you what didn't work, the ring that holds the tags on. He must have caught his tags on something and bent the ring because the tag with his name, address and phone number (he has his own line...) wasn't on him. Stayed on the other dog though. If the tag stayed on I would have had him back last night. I'm going to look into a stronger ring for the next one and do a little looking for a GPS unit for his collar. I heard $250 but will look into it. I would have paid that in a heart beat last night!

Now that turns my otherwise miserable day into one to celebrate! So happy all is well.

I never trust the ring tags and always get collars like this www.gundogsupply.com/collars.html. The ID plate is rivited right to the collar and I have yet to see one come off. Some of the engraving places in shopping malls offer this service.

When we used to run Beagles and had one that would go off on a long hunt we would leave a jacket or blanket (with our scent) in the area where we last seen the dog. Come back in a couple of hours and you would always find the dog curled up there. I have used the same technique with a couple of different breeds and it has always worked.
At some point most dogs will start looking for you and the jacket/blanket is a good scent point for them to find.

X2 on everything said here. All have helped return a number of my hounds in the past.
