Rusty would of been 14 years old on October 6, 2011 but his health failed suddenly overnight and today he went to sleep peacefully and now is in hunters heaven. I celebrated his new life by purchasing a Tim Hortons coffee and taking a ride in the country as we always did to scout for deer. Needless to say a box of kleenex came in handy. Rusty was a Britany Spaniel who always showed love, affection and loyality to me and other hunters. I will miss you old man and hope to see you again when it is my turn.

Sorry for your loss. I hate hearing about dogs that have died, it's the one thing that always chokes me up. Dogs very much part of the family and it sound like you gave yours a good life.

I'm sorry to hear that track,I have 2 old labs,13 1/2 and 12 and I know that soon I'll be going through the same thing as you.It will be the hardest thing I've ever faced, they are very dear to me.Cherish your memories......Best wishes,Mur

A good dog is truly mans best friend, sorry for your loss, but getting a pup to soon can be a bad thing as a pup will sense sadness.
Give it some time and then when you have recovered from your loss pick up a new hunting partner, won't replace the old one but will be priceless none the same.

Sorry for your loss. I have two britts one getting up there also. They are wonderful dogs as you know and the best friend a man can have.

I have come to think that the right time to get a new dog is more than a year before you lose the old one.

I've come to the same conclusion...
Now my 'replacement' guy is the 'old one', and it's time to find the new 'transition' model.....
It doesn't make the passing any easier, but it better represents the 'continuity' that is life.
The inevitable loss of something, or someone, is what makes one cherish them.

I have come to think that the right time to get a new dog is more than a year before you lose the old one.

My vet said 4 years before so two years ago when my oldest was eight I got a new pup. Next time I think from what I have seen in the old dog I should have got it even sooner.
There are days the new pup makes the old one act young again and there are other days when she just wants to kill the pup.
It is a hard thing to determine and I am still not sure what is right.

Sorry for your loss; I always hate to hear this kind of news. Take the time necessary, then bring another pup into your home so you can start making new memories, while never forgetting the old ones. Take care.

Don't replace your pal too soon, it won't be fair to the new pup who will find it tough to measure up. We waited almost a year to replace Shadow and still miss him terribly, but Ginger has found a place in our hearts.
