Lost the detent ball and spring

I think I am phrasing it right (lost detent ball and spring),........ The other day at the range, I notice that I had some build up on my bolt. (its a savage axis .233) so decided to give the gun a good cleaning. Not so smart (didn't think it through) so I ended up losing the ball and spring (must have went flying and cant locate either) so now I am looking for a new ball and spring. Not exactly sure where I can find such a thing, hoping some of you can guide me in the right direction.

Before I learned to always disassemble Savage bolt heads in a plastic bag, I was able to get a replacement spring and detent from Grech Outdoors

Magnets are your friend in cases like this. Takes from a few seconds to a few hours, but usually worth the effort. Wear knee pads!
 
You can also contact savage directly for replacements. I upgraded the extractor, spring, and ball bearing from my axis to a better one, supplied by savage. Fixed the weak extraction/ejection.

Ya, I have been looking but unfortunately I was doing it in the garage, and its a mess in there right now. The extractor itself was found in the garbage bin but cant seem to locate the ball or spring. I keep going out there to look but not having any luck. :(

Just about any bicycle repair shop will have a parts bin full of various sized bearing balls.

Many auto parts places have random assortments of springs, as do some Hardware stores. Find one about the right strength, and clip it down to the length needed with wire cutters.

A strip of the magnetic tape like used to be used on magnetic whiteboards can be a godsend for finding small flown-away parts, as you can sweep a very large area rather quickly.

Thank you for the offer, very nice of you........ but CGN Ganderite (very thankful) is shipping me the spring and detent ball and wants nothing in return. (Great to have people like that on this site)

I needed a new extractor for an Axis and I called Savage Arms in the U.S. They sent me a new one free of charge. :)

You just need to tell them make model and serial number of the gun.
