Lost Wager with Wife / .416 Rigby & on Paper......

Boy, that tailgate served a good purpuss down.

The gigglie at the end of the recoil can't be fayked.

Good job on her picking the right chap.............me thinks.

Always thought a .416 was a girl's gun; better man up and get a .460 Weatherby.:nest:

Anyhow, good for her; pretty gutsy for her to get behind that thing. A guy who thought he was cool and tough, and claimed to know all about rifles tried my hot loaded #1 in .416 Rigby (350 @ 2850). He was so scared of the thing he fired it while I could see daylight between the butt and his shoulder, and he touched it off before I could stop him. It literally brought a tear to his eye, and he declined to try it again, never mind 4 more times.

I'm surprised she still has her teeth, as far as that stock was from her face. I'm all for people shooting big guns, but as the pragmatic wet-blanket in the crowd I would suggest that unless you plan on trimming the stock for her and getting her stance sorted out, you would be best served by leaving this trip out as a one-off. I know I'm being a downer, but that's too much LOP and too much weight for her (or any other similarly sized and structured shooter) which is why her front foot came off the ground (or, she must have had it off the ground by the end of that recoil). Half the time when you do something like that it results in the shooter falling over or losing their grip on the rifle, neither of which is a good situation. She's half-way lost control with her right hand, her eyes are clamped shut against the recoil...I just can't find much good to say about the whole situation (I mean, she only hit the target once out of 4 times) other than I'm glad she went shooting with you and I assume she enjoys it, which is awesome.

I know...if you're going to be a cranky old stick-in-the-mud you should just shut the #### up and let others have their fun. But when that fun runs the risk of pushing people away from the shooting sports, I get touchy even though I shouldn't.

Now that I think about it, in an attempt to end my Debbie-Downer post on a somewhat positive note, maybe invest in a set of shooting sticks, traditionally used in Africa. You can get wood or metal and they run the gamut in prices but they would allow her to support the rifle better and fix her stance to better soak up the recoil (though she doesn't look very "recoil-soakingly dimensioned as opposed to people like me) and allow her to land more accurate shots. Similar accuracy to shooting off the bench but far more manageable when dealing with a hard-kicker, especially where the rifle it too long for her.

All in all, I'm glad you got out for a day of shooting with the missus (even if I kinda #### all over it). Getting out and doing stuff together, especially shooting... the real victory here.

And a big smile at the end of the recoil impulse!! She is a keeper.

^ Just what I was thinking! :) And shooting a gun that doesn't fit her worth a damn!

I have a couple of friends, both of them big tough guys (I can see they're big, and they keep telling me how tough they are...), and both of them whine like teenage girls after shooting one of my .375's. I can't wait to show them these photos! :)

At least your wife will shoot guns with you. My wife is scared ####less of my guns. And now that our son got his PAL she is on the warpath. Wait until our daughter starts shooting. OH boy. I have tried too many times to get her to go hunting but nope, won't budge. And yet she grew up on a farm

I found the .416 Rigby more like shooting 3" mag from a 12ga just a good shove not a punch like the .338win mag in my model 70 Classic........400gr Partitions take the wind out of moose real good.hopefully ya didn't ruin the girl for lighter calibers..Harold
