Is everyone else having a problem with your M14/M305 rear sight components?

I am just about ready to put a drop of Loctite medium strength thread locker on the screw for the elevation knob because it just keeps loosening

How significant is the torque for this stupid screw anyways? I mean is it supposed to be readily loosened up to have elevation adjustability or is it ok if it just stays there tightened for good and maybe even permanently?

Yup, it's the one thing on the Norinco M14 rifles that needs replacing other than the chicom wood...

The guys were talking about an Italian source for M1 garand rear sights??? Someone will chime in with that info for ya!

Cheers
Jay

yup just replace the rear site, even lock tite won't fix them half the time, get yourself a new match front site to go with it.
While your at it replace the barrel and bolt, they are junk, sub par realy with badly lapped lugs and wonky head spacing, odds are the indexing is off anyways....
Oh and the stock, they are terrible, the plastic ones flex to much and the wood ones compress letting the reciever slop around
Don't forget to replace the gas system, save yourself the headache of having to reshim every coupl,e hundred rounds because the steel keeps compressing and wears easy.
Never miss replacing the op rod, op rod guide and oprod spring guide, save yourself the issues with those too the oprod spring is only $7 and a usgi is better so grab that with this set.
The triger is another positive must to replace, get rid of that creaky NORc POS that is prone to failure leading to double firing and run aways
All that leaves is the reciever, they can be bunk barrels coming off at wierd angles from inproper barrel threading, rough cutting, out of spec mag wells

so... wait... were did the norc go?

Look for a posting here about the 'Italian connection'...lots of details there about some Beretta-made rear sights that work great and how to get them.

In the meantime, if you have your sights working well at 200m, just freeze them there with Loctite. They'll be close enough to dead-on at other ranges for all practical purposes.

At least your pinion didn't snap in 2 .... National match rear sights are worth every last penny, the rest of these rifles are fine, at least in my experience, mine has to be up around 1000 rounds and I haven't had to shim my gas system, had any double fires and can shoot 3moa with irons any day of the week... With the norc sights I was lucky to shoot 4 to 5 moa

lol, anyone who DOES replace all these krap parts, dont scrap them, i'll take them off your hands

I replaced the Chinese rear sight only because someyoungguy fell asleep at the drill press and drilled 3,000 apertures slightly of center that night shift with a MSG hangover, and it was annoying during sighting. The sight itself worked as well as the brand new USGI Garand I put on. Would it last for years of constant come ups repeatedly compared to the Garand sight, ....maybe not, but I'll never know now.
All I really need is to A, fix the aperture or B, buy a used GI aperture for the sight for 19.00 dollars and I have a back up sight if I buy a rifle with the rear sight damaged or missing altogether.

so what your saying is you want to go buy a norc.... your crazy

And for the record... my norc is worth almost as much as a springfield.... and im buying a LRB m25 to replace it.

Hmm, guess you wanted to buy a norc then too eh? if you didnt, why do you have one? I love mine, shoots straight, with a usgi bolt it now has an uber tight chamber, way more accurate then i am. well over 1000 rounds and no signs of problems.
