LouthePou, one of our more regular Milsurp Forum Members, needs a bit of your assistance to help support a worthy cause.

If he is willing to go this far, I think we can have a bit of fun and show our support and appreciation of his efforts.

Thanks guys! We're roughly a 1/3 of the way, so don't be shy, let us know how much you're willing to give to the Bourget Food bank, and we'll watch the total grow. And my anxiety alongside. :D

Hi folks, thanks to many of you, we're nearing the half way mark. Current total is $415. Don't be shy, send me a PM, support a good cause! (And by that I mean the food bank, not my costume-wearing attitude...)

Lou

Hi folks, the half-way point has been reached. We're over $500 in funds for the Bourget Food Bank, which the Eastern Ontario Shooting Club is helping out. Don't be shy, let's reach our target before September 14! Send me a PM if you want info etc.

Lou

I am sort of 50 - 50 on this because it would be good fun AND I like Lou.

Pensions are in Thursday; I'm sending in mine for the food bank whether Lou does it or not.

Anyone else?

Thanks Smellie, very much appreciated - by me of course, but really by the many who will benefit from the Food Bank's help. And Diopter, thanks too! I'll gladly accept the donation, but I'm ok for stockings. :) (very nice ship by the way)

Lou

@ DIOPTER:

Do you know if any of the old White Fleet ships are still afloat? They must have been the loveliest fishing-fleet ever to cross the Atlantic.

I got out to Newfoundland only in 1975, so barely missed their final season.

I think I would have given almost anything to see them out there, at work: the very LAST commercial sail.

Have you seen the 1936 version of "Captains Courageous"?

It's dory-fishing on the Grand Banks with a Gloucester two-master as home base. An awful lack of "special effects" because they didn't have the technology to fake it.... so they used real schooners. Watching that film, there are places which can make you cry (literally): the ships are just SO beautiful.

Blog on the white ships from the fishing company that is restoring them.
Feel free to have google translate it.
