So I picked up a Mosin Sniper from Westrifle few months back to use as my deer gun (love the thought of using a milsurp to take a deer, and the rifle of my hero to boot :D !)

So on the last day of the rifle hunt I was climbing the ladder to my stand when I heard a rattle.... When I reached the top I inspected my rifle to see that the screw holding the scope in its mount had come loose and the scope was just rattling around... I took the scope off, for fear of my zero being messed up, and used my irons. FYI, no deer this year.

So I thought I would take my rifle out today and remount the scope and re-zero it. Got to my range, put the scope on and made no adjustments. Lined up for a 130m shot (I only zero'd the scope to 75m last time, as that was the furthest I can see from my tree stand). I put the cross hair on my impromptu target, a empty wire reel standing on its end. I pulled the trigger, and the wire reel jumped up and back about 10 feet. Went out and looked dead center of the reel, exactly where I had been aiming. Took another 19 shots to confirm, and all was good. I love this rifle!

I'd like to see what they look like too. My minty Pole m-44 needs some swag too.

Awesome pics Fiddler, makes me wanna take my Mosin out next fall, my buddy can take the long shots with his scoped Weatherby and I can take shorter one with the Mosin, plus it can double and a first class walking stick if I put the rubber butt pad on the bottom.

Will have rubber pads in a week. Price will follow.

Don't kid yourself with the Mosin for only short range use. Using iron sights I can hit 18 inch gongs up to 250 yards with my homeloads and the Mosin in the pictures. I heart shot a doe last year at almost 200 yards with the same rifle and LVE 203gr soft points. A Mosin will work in any bush or semi-field hunting. 200 grains out of a Mosin will bang-flop deer.

Oh I have no doubt the Mosin will do anything a 308 or even30-06 will do for the most part, but for me it's gonna be a matter of practice. Might have to pick up a whole lotta cheap ammo to get going with and a few boxes of hunting loads and get someone to make up some quality reloads I figure 200 grain bullets might be overkill for deer maybe can get some 165 grain soft points made up.

Thanks Al I'll check in about them after Xmas, might even pick up another Mosin that way if I beat mine up I'll still have a nice one for range fun.
