I have a preference for the remington but I'm curious to see what everyone will pick... :D

With the Stevens 200's beeing on sale much cheaper...
And savage with their accutrigger...
Rem SPS just beeing a 700...

they've all got their ups and downs

Happy voting :p

Stevens 200 is a Savage sans accu trigger and "flash", Remington's a proven platform you'd be hard pressed to be unhappy with (except maybe the SPS stock). All three are good, but for general hunting purposes might as well narrow it down to the Stevens and Remington, then pick what kinda money you want to spend. Again, for a general hunting rifle, and Stevens 200 will do just fine. :)

Best cheap bolt action though: An $80 Lee Enfield sporter :)

I have bought two Rem 700SPS rifles one in 300win and 22/250. Both are sub MOA with factory ammo. I won't say how well they do with tailored handloads but considerably better.
Like the 24" length barrels in non magnum cartridges and 26" length barrel in magnum cartridges. Definately a determining factor in purchasing the 700SPS.
Matte finish looks awful good as well. 8)

is the stevens going to be a regular production item or is it simply savage cleaning up the parts bin and when those parts are gone so is the stevens?

None of the above.... spend a few bucks more and buy a Tikka T-3

The t3 sounds nice and all but it's a wopping 300$ more than the rem (which is the most expensive of the 3 listed)

Why buy a T3 when I can buy a SPS AND a stevens 200 for the same price? or heck I could even buy 3 200's...

Is a T3 better than 3 stevens 200's??

Steven 200, Was suprised when I got under a inch grouping with the rifle on my first trip out with it with 45grn HP 223 ammo.

319 I cannot complain...

Quality will always serve you better than quantity! :D

Can you hunt with 3 rifles at the smae time? No. So make your one rifle that you hunt with be the best, the most accurate, the most dependable gun you can afford.

No experience wiht the Remingotn or the Savage, but I have a Stevens, and it's hard to beat for the price.

For the price it is accurate and of decent construction. There are much better rifles out there, though.

It all comes down to how much you want to spend :D

I keep seeing these threads on the Stevens/Savage and for the price I may have to talk myself into getting one.

Just what caliber is the next question. I have the high speed 25-06 and 7mmRM middle calibers covered and a few .308's so I guess it will have to be either bigger say 30-06 or a magnum in 300 or 338. The other option is smaller in 223 or 22-250 or the likes of that.

choices choices

The myth of superior Tikka quality is a scam. They are accurate, nice and light, and the actions are very smooth. But are they made in Europe as they pretend to be? Remember it wasn't long ago that some Sako/Tikka barrels burst. This was downplayed with a statement like" It was just one batch of offshore barrels that caused a problem". Hey wait a minute! Offshore barrels! The rifle says made in Finland on it. I guess the "offshore" parts were a secret. Some guys are less than enthused that their Brownings and Weatherby Vanguards are made in Japan. But they haven't burst any barrels and openly admit where they are made. With a Tikka you don't know what you are getting. It might be mostly a collection of parts made by Chinese slave labour. And how do we know they've fixed the quality control processes that allowed such a terrible mistake to happen in the first place? Go for a Remington or a Savage or a Vanguard or ANYTHING but a Tikka!
