So I've had my restricted for quite some time and I've been looking to buy. I just never get around to it. Since a lot of this will blow over in the next couple months I'd like to get in line. I hear its taken a month or so to get a transport sticker these days.

I've shot a CZ and a Glock, magnums, 45's, 22's etc. However I've had my heart set on a Smith and Wesson M&P M2.0.

There is a kit you can get around $700 includes the case, mags, holster, loader etc. But my local store sold out of them. I waited too long :) Can't find that kit anywhere.

Anyone have any recommendations on a low cost high quality starter pistol? Is the Smith and Wesson any good as far as accuracy? Looks like its pretty well made and pretty expandable.

You've shot with it? Good for a newb? Its a striker fire so its pretty easy. I've never shot with it so thats why I'm wondering. I hate to buy before you try :)

Nothing wrong with the m&p.

I’d you like it, it’ll serve you well for years

This.

If you've got the money, its hard to argue with a M&P or a Glock for a first handgun. There are cheaper options, but nothing has the aftermarket support that these two do, particularly in the striker-fired realm (obviously 1911s beat them for aftermarket). If you want to be able to easily find different sights, triggers, holsters, etc etc then go with one of the big names - the SIG 320 would be another option with good aftermarket support, and the fact that the US military adopted them means they'll be around for a long ass time and the aftermarket support will only grow.

As someone who has owned a pair of cheap 9mms, (used to own an FMK 9c1, now own a Diamondback DB9FS) not being able to find holsters, magazines being stupid expensive, and a complete lack of upgrades with regards to sights or triggers makes them far less desirable IMO.

Also looking up the SIG 320 and CZ P10. Thanks for the info. My main thing is I want a kit with the case and mags all together. So I don't need to shop around adding this and that.

World ain't going to end. The globe will keep spinning. This is all a major (but planned) over-reaction. So far only immune compromised people are dying. Is it a big deal yes but the over-reaction was worse than the actual virus. The death totals are similar to regular flu numbers at the moment. Even if its worse, 95% of the population will survive so people need to calm the F down.

reality is irrelevant right now...only thing that matters is the collective perception of reality. Fear seems to be driving the bus around most of the world right now.

As it turns out, it is also a horrible time to buy 9mm....so even if you did find that M&P you wanted...feeding it may be problematic. (at least on the US side, which usually comes here eventually)

Oh yeah. Only immune compromised. Thats why the 34 year old chinese doctor who first blew the whistle on this is dead. Or the 21 year old Italian soccer player. Or the 16 year old girl in France.

Yes, the old and the immuno-compromised are most at risk, but to say that they are the ONLY ones at risk is ignorant at best. Death tolls are not even close to the regular flu - in 2018, there were an estimated 45 MILLION cases of the flu, with 61000 deaths (or 0.135% of cases). Covid in the USA is currently sitting at almost 400 000 cases (they'll break that mark today or tomorrow), and already 12000 deaths (or 3% of cases). Thats a death rate that is 22 times higher for COVID than the flu, and we haven't even hit the rough times yet as hospital space and ventilators haven't run out yet. If you look at Italy, they have far less cases but even more deaths (135k cases, 17k deaths) so their fatality rate thanks to a lack of hospital space and ventilators is currently sitting above 10%.

I will repeat that - more than 1 in 10 people confirmed to have COVID in Italy are dead now. The flu kills ~1 in 800 (based on 2018 USA statistics from the CDC), nearly two orders of magnitude lower.

There are a lot of unanswered questions (such as how many people have Covid but haven't been tested) but one thing is certain, this is far more deadly than the common flu.

OP, now is not a good time to be trying to get into the hobby, particularly with regards to restricted guns. Ranges are closed, finding guns or ammo in stock is hard, and prices are only going up with the current state of our dollar. If it were me, I'd wait on purchasing any restricteds until I can actually use them.

My problem as of now is every place on the planet is our of stock on them.

Buy used or find some patience and wait until new stock arrives, your choice.

Unfortunately, trying to buy a firearm when the world might be ending is not really a good time.

Yes, certainly buying at exactly the wrong time, no doubt about that.

Planned by whom? lol

Actually people who are perfectly healthy with no under lying health issues or compromised immune systems are dying as well I'm afraid.

Covid-19 is much worse than the flu......f:P:

Your ok if 5% of the population dies.................f:P:2:

S&W M&P 9mm kit @ Tenda $659.99 In-stock.

I personally can't sand the M&P 2.0. Friend of mine has one and it ejects shells right at your medula, no fun when trying to stay on target. Get yourself a CZ SP-01 Shadow, $850 will buy you a nice solid pistol that isn't made of plastic. Accurate as anything and reliable af. I've got over 2000rds thru mine with not a single malfunction. You can get used ones for around 500 that will still be way better then an M&P imo.

Or check out CZ P10c - very similar to M&P price wise

I see you are relatively new to this forum. You’re asking about “new”. Have you thought about buying used?

If you have access to the Equipment Exchange, there are many great deals on pre-owned 9mm pistols. I’ve heard of Glocks that went for sub-$500 prices. It all depends on your and the seller’s need to buy/purchase, supply and demand and all that.

Good thing with buying “used” is you’d most likely not lose money on reselling it, not including the original shipping to you. And you can receive the piece in a week if the circumstances are right. I’m on the west coast and anything I buy in BC or Alberta is in my hands in a week.

If you haven’t yet, apply for EE access, and knock yourself out.

And if you're like me and can't stand the Canadianized nubby barrel of the CZ P-10 "C", go with the SC. Whenever they get back in stock.
But stay away from the "F" model. Grip is way too long, to accomidate the 19 rd clip which we'll never use in Canada, anyways.
