Recently got back into the shotgunning scene and i.m sort of shocked at how much trap & skeet loads are.
I found some at the John Deere dealer in Bayers Lake, N.S. (Halifax) that were priced fairly well @ $68.00 per flat. Once those dried up I went looking at my local CTC and found one flat of Challenger #7.5 for $68.99.
I went back to buy more, but they had no stock left. So had to buy their Federal 100pk for $30.99

What have you all been doing to feed your habit? Is reloading much cheaper? Is there a supplier that you can recommend? I have searched the sponsors, but they just cater to the doomsday/ tactical crowd.- I know - it's hard to compete with low cost bulk ammo. The shipping costs are crazy.

In my area (SW Ontario), the going rate for a flat of 250 rounds 12ga or 20ga trap loads is $65 plus tax, +/- $5.

Sail typically has flats of Federal Top Gun 12ga for $63.
Lawry's is around $58-$63 for flats of Rio and Challenger.
Canadian Tire is $69.99 for Challenger.

If you like shootin' the fancy stuff like Winchester AA's, then you're looking at $99/flat. I'm not too familiar with sources in the Halifax area. It sounds like the $68 deals at your CTC and John Deere are reasonable. Wait for a sale (or promo's like when CTC offers bonus gift cards) and stock up! I get antsy when I open my last flat...i know it's time to restock.

Not shooting anymore. Sail has a 15 percent sale so buy a bunch. Just buy alot where there are sales. Prices have gone up.

62.95 for Winchester Super Target 1 oz 8-shot target loads at Hummason (in Ontario, near Hamilton). As far as I know, they don't ship. You pick up.

My Maxus likes Remington Gun Club the best,I can usually get that for around 60/flat. Try Glens Ammo in Milford,he has 12 but no 20 last I checked.

If you shoot at the Dartmouth trap and skeet club, talk to Anthony. He is sponsored by lequille country store. He used to bring flats of challengers every week. Sold them for $62. Then it went up to $64. This was back in October. Not sure what he is selling them for now.

Not shooting enough to reload my own, I use the following:

Quality for your dollar, hands down take Score target (Prairie Shot), ostensibly from ammosupply.ca, or wherever you can get it. "Bronze" is 1oz, "Silver" 1 1/16 and "Gold" is 1 1/8 oz load for the semi lover.
I find them soft shooting, clean, and no FTE or jamming issues; nice brass content, not aluminum. Plus, made in Canada :canadaFlag:

Second I take the Federal Top Gun wherever I can find it. Decent enough stuff for the price.

I find the Remington works well, yet almost as dirty as their .22 ammo (tho not nearly as bad as Winchester; AA-or-nothing when it comes to Winchester, and that is just too expensive for many).

No experience with Challenger, as nobody near me sells it.

Check these part#'s at your local Canadian Tire: Product #75-1464-2,
75-1465-0
Federal Top Gun 1 1/8Oz #7.5 & 8 respectively $69.99/flat, sold as a flat only. 2 of the 3 Moncton stores stock it.
