I know this has been discussed to death so if some one has a link thank you in advance.

Which low end scopes are the better built ones ? ( I'm thinking those models below the 3200 ) I am looking for a scope that will hold its zero. A scope that can be dialed and left alone.

I've used the Legend series with good luck but I don't like the eye relief. I've had banners, others with good eye relief but they would not hold zero when you changed power settings.

Can I have what I am looking for or do I have to spend more coin. The gun will be a simple .223 that won't be used for shots over 350M. As long as I can shoot minute of yote I'll be a happy camper.
 
I've got a Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40 on a Lee-Enfield. Hitting golfballs at 100yrds for years and no problems. It's had at least a couple thousand rounds through it over the past 7 or 8 years.
 
Trophy is decent, Legend is better glass. Wouldn't go lower than the Trophy myself but lots here will have good things to say about the Banner as well. I have not used one so I have no comment.

There seems to be a general rule that when scope marketing companies go to East Asia to have scopes made, they go to Japan for the best, and China for the cheapest, and Taiwan, Korea, and the Phillipines for something in between. (Not that the Chinese couldn't make something as good, if you wanted it, but it would cost more, and without the price advantage Chinese kit is a hard sell against the established reputation of Japanese.)

I've got a Bushnell Trophy, made in Korea, that works just as it should and seems to be good value for the price. Definitely better than some cheaper stuff I have looked at. Definitely not as good as some more expensive stuff I have looked at.

On a 223 you can use the Banner, the Trophy or the Legend series of scopes and get good results with all of them. FS
 
I would consider the Legend is by far the best glass for the price. I use a Legend 4-12x40 on my 223 and it has served well. Eye relief is no issue as a 223 has little recoil. Legend 2-7x32 have far more eye-relief than advertised and is great glass for the price as well.
 
Despite having VX3s on most of my rifles, it took me years before I finally removed the embarassingly cheap and ancient 6X Banner from my first and primary hunting rifle. It just worked well, my groupings were tight, and I never missed a shot.

I also have a more modern Banner on one of my rimfires. More than adequate glass for knocking heads off jacks out to 100.
 
I've got a banner 3-9x50 on my 597 (.22) , and a trophy 3-9x50 on my savage .17. the trophy has much better glass, tighter construction and excellent eye relief. I mounted the banner on my mini 30 and the recoil beat the living heck outta the scope. I would not hesitate to purchase a trophy again. I paid around 80 for the banner, and 120 for the trophy. Both are illuminated reticules, and the trophy has much better illumination.
