Edit a few minutes later... Well this is embarrassing... I just found Blazer at Cabela's. I didn't even think to look. Duh.

***************************************************

I need some lower power .44 Mag.... and all I can find is normal, hot factory stuff. .44 Special won't do... too much jump and the rifle doesn't spec it. I'd like subsonic jacketed 240 gr. bullets. CCI Blazer fits the bill, but I can't find any in Canada (it's about 1100 fps from a 6" revolver -- Federal is 1450... Hornady is faster generally...). Cast cowboy loads won't tell me what I need to know...

I need to test fire a new rifle and hand loads void the warranty -- and there is a small warranty issue to take care of. I'm new to .44 Magnum and I'm not too proud to admit that I don't want to start off with full magnum loads. I'm sure most of my shooting with it will be subsonic anyway (when I reload for it).

Any ideas?

.... There's a youtube video series of velocity tests of a whole range of .44 Mag ammo.... He chronos 20 or more different types. If I remember correctly, Blazer was the slowest.... (or maybe it was HSM... but HSM isn't gettable here it looks like...) Blazer gets pretty good reviews... apart from the disposable aluminum cases. I like to reload all the same Starline cases anyway. It's still over a buck a shot! Crazy.

Embedding this youtube video here doesn't work, so here's a link: https://youtu.be/fLkrAl5ocYI

I'm not sure what you're trying to do, but .44 mag in a rifle isn't really that bad. I've got a Marlin 1894 in .44 mag and it recoils moderately at most. In a handgun it can be stout, no doubt.
HSM is slower because it has a heavier bullet; it's got more energy and heavier recoil than normal .44mag though.

If you want light recoiling, you could try to find 180gr ammo. It'll be faster than anything else but a tad lighter recoiling. If you want a lower velocity and it's not recoil you're worried about, you could try to find heavier ammo.
