I like the idea of the hammond game getter, and am contemplating on getting one. but i was wondering

Since i want to take my swede (i have 2, one a husqvarna commercial, the other is a carl gustav m96 with a cut barrel), as my sole rifle when camping, I would also like the chance to use it for small game.

I was wondering, if I load a lighter bullet (ie the 95gr hornady bullets available) at a lower power, would this be a suitable round? Has anyone done this? are there any known recipes?

I realize if im trying to develop loads for both rifles I will be doing my fair share of trial and error, I was just wondering if anyone has some advice for me before I go down this road.

I'd second skipping the game getter and just handload whatever your cheapest bullet is (Don't even worry about bullet weight or style - just go cheap and you should be fine, the grouse and rabbits won't know the difference.), over 2/3rds of a case of Trail Boss set off with a magnum primer. I considered the game getter myself, but find that reduced loads are just so much better. I've now got reduced loads for several of my rifles.

anyone have suggestions for powder other than trail boss?

im going to slug my barrels (i have 3 rifles in 6.5x55), and determine what diameter bullets i need, then ill most likely buy smoe trailboss
