What is a good choice for a carry handle mounting low-power optic for an AR15?
ACOGs cost more than the rifles they sit on and ELCANs are flattop-only.
I was thinking of a 4x mounted with low rings and ARMS #2 such as an IOR M2 or Leupold MR/T.
Does anyone have a similar setup? What are the drawbacks? (Cheek weld, precision of shots, handling).

Buy a flat top upper reciever. Not being a smart ass, it really is the best way to go and gets rid of terrible cheek weld problems.

I'll probably buy a flattop as my second AR, although I really like the A2 receiver since there is no need to fumble with BUIS, and everything is rigidly and permanently attached. In my opinion, a flip-up BUIS is yet another moving part prone to problems. I guess I'll keep my existing A2 as an irons-only gun and do some more research on flattops.

Why not just get the Leapers 4x or 6x AR-15 scopes from Marstar?

I know the ACOGs have a big price tag attached, but I picked up an ACOG compact and carry handle mounted it so I can still use the iron sights for back up, and it is my favorite set up! Perfect for CQB to 300M shooting. And unlike every other piece of gear I own, I have NO burning desire to upgrade it, it is perfect kit. If your gonna make your AR a reliable system, then spend the $$ now rather than later, when you inevitabley upgrade and spend the money anyway.

I'm an equipment snob  I hate knock-offs. But I will take a look at some reviews of the Leapers scope, more things to look at is good!

Which one did you buy (and how much $$$)? Which reticle?
Also, is the bullet drop compensator any good with non-5.56 ammo? EDIT: Just realized that the Compact ACOG does not have one
Have you tried it beyond 300m?
Is the mount on it see-through or do you have to take it off to use the irons?

Looking at the Trijicon website, the compact 3x24 ACOG is $900USD. I wonder if it hooks up to your brain and aims the rifle for you :D :D
