low power compact scopes under $500

i am looking for NON ILLUMINATED, nor do i want tactical style exposed turrets.
fixed power is ok no more than 2.5x
1" or 30mm tube
decent eye relief
ideally looking for a 1-4 x
all i can come up with is the leupold vx2 and fx lines and the fx 2.5x is a scout scope

going on a lee enfield 45/70 conversion
 
Leupy VariX 1.5x5x20s come up on the EE often. They are tough, have great eye relief, have the reliable leupold warranty even when bought used and are usually very reasonably priced.

I have a used one on my .375 H&H carbine and it is great.

Your perfect scope would be a Leupold Compact 2.5X with the Heavy Duplex reticle. I have a couple, and they're the closest thing you will ever find to bullet-proof as far as scopes go.

I use both the Leupold 1x4 and 1.5x5. Also have a Bushnell Scopechief 1.5x4.5. I prefer these type scopes to a fixed 2.5 as it gives some extra magnification for range shooting & working up loads.

A VXII 2x7 is a very good choice as well. Very flexible, yet still a small lightweight package.
 
this is for shooting deer with subsonic loads in my backyard. the longest shot is about 60yards and most are shot under 20

If it's not a money issue I'd consider something with an illuminated reticle. The ones with glass etched reticles can be used with or without power and I find in low light conditions against darker targets the illumination is a good option.
