I want to put a scope on something with a bit more recoil. Low power, preferably to 1x.
Cannot afford a Swaro. Anything at a decent price? Where to get it? I've been cruising the EE but nothing fit.
Any suggestions?

nikon monarch 1-4x20 is one of the best to handle recoil.
Agreed. I have several on my 375 & up cal's

How is the eye relief on the Monarch?
4 inches plus. I have the Nikon Monarch 3 African mounted on my 416 Rigby, 404 Jeffery, and 450 Rigby. Also had one on a 458 Lott. Have yet to get pranged in the head.

What ever you get make sure there is enough elevation in the scope.

Perhaps you could be more specific about what you mean by "something with a bit more recoil" - more than a .243? a 30-06?? These are the choices I made: - I have a number of Weaver K2.5 and K3 as well as Bushnell Banner 2.5's on various rifles that I set up for "bush bushing" or for the newest hunters in the family. I use them on shorter barrel 6.5x55, 308, 30-06, and have them on several Lee Enfield 303 British. My 308 Norma Mag will have a Leupold M8-6x. My 9.3x62 has a Leupold M8-3x. My 338 Win Mag has a Leupold M8-6x. My 458 Win Mag has a Leupold M8-2.5x. I sight in with a load I work up, then stay with that - never turning settings in the field. I practice shooting trying to keep both eyes open, and find that if works very well, especially with 2.5 and 3 power. I do not think variables are good choice for new hunters - they are constantly twirling knobs, having the setting inappropriate, etc. We very seldom have shot anything much past 250 yards (Whitetail, Mule Deer, Elk). All my "hunting" rifles use Weaver bases and Weaver rings - never had any issue with them. Some exceptions: an M70 Winchester in 7x57 with one piece Talley base / rings with a Leupold 3-9 Compact; a couple BSA M1917 conversions and Parker Hale Model 1000 C using Parker Hale bases and rings.

I should have specified more: a 338 WM and 47-70. Wondering if the Bushnell AK would be enough... Really like it, but the recoil may be too much?

Don't think a low power would suit a 338WM. Would work on a 45/70. 338 has long range potential so something like a 2-8, 3-9, 2.5-10 etc would be a good starting point. Depends on hunting terrain as well.

Talking to the Nikon service tech : all can teke the recoil. Don't know which one is better because we chuck the bad ones and just replace them. No repairs.
Leupod tech: all will take the recoil, for true 1x one must spend way over 1k
Vortex: all are good but you MUST buy a Razor
Bushnell: we test them for 375 but don't recommend Banner. All others would do.

All of of the techs were in US. No Canadian ones answered :(

Thank you for suggestions, gentlemen. I will head out to try a few more, but local pickings are slim.
