Hi there. I recently picked up some 6.5x55 dies for my Swedes (m96 and m38) and I'm wondering if anyone has any load data for reduced loads.

I'm currently loading 7.62x54R and .303 with CE Harris's universal load for military rifles (180 grain cast bullet over 13 grains of Red Dot).

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with a similar load for 6.5 (preferably using Red Dot so I can keep the same powder for all three calibers)

Cheers

The data I have seen (I did a "Yahoo" search on "Red Dot Powder") says that the calibre must be .30 or larger to use "The Load" of Red Dot.

My Lyman Manual #47 has a cast bullet load of 7 grs (1135 fps) of Red Dot with a Max of 9.5 grs (1335 fps) Red Dot with a 143 gr bullet.

not a red dot load but If you want to plink with the 6.5x55 I suggest you find some 85gr. sierra HP's and load them with medium burning powder like 4064 (starting load is fine). For me this shoots about the POI as my 140gr. hunting loads at 100 yards. Cheap and no recoil.

Trailboss and whatever cheap bullet you can find works well too. I used it to get my son used to his .260 and the wife her 6.5x55.
