I want to get a deer, black bear and moose rifle for my lady friend... She has a hard time with recoil (30-06,).

Which cartridge would you pick and why.

no .243's please.
6.5x55 and .260 are great, but limited in rifle selection.

This has been debated here about a thousand times, if she doesn't like recoil then moose might be out???? There are a number of calibre's that are quite suited for a woman , 7-08 and such, but might be a bit light for moose. There really are no answers on calibre but maybe on gun-weight and size to adjust recoil for moose. Check archives

The 7mm-08 is far from too lite for a moose. I have an uncle who all he shoots is the little cartridge for everything. If you would trust a 7x57, the 7mm-08 will do the same thing. Lite recoil and flat tragectories are a bonus, too.

Moose down with .270

get her a 7mm-08 and make sure it has a good recoil pad

if you handload, load her 140 grain Barnes TSX or Nosler over enough H4895 to do 2600 fps, have her keep her shots to 200 yards or closer and it'll kill moose as well as anything

I dumped a Moose at 200 meters across a swamp on it's Fat nose with Factory Hornady lightmag ammo out of a 7mm-08.
Recoil is very manageable and Yes it will KILL anything just fine too;)

Of course nowadays I'd also recommend the 260

My wife uses a 308 BAR. Good for everything from deer to moose. Easy to use and fun to shoot. Ok, yes I bought it for myself but I do let her use it once in a while. Droppped a spike bull with it last year, one shot.

the smallest I'd be comfortable taking a moose with would be a 7mm08 with 140 TSX's. I'd *prefer* a 338 with Partition's, though
