Hi Everyone.
I m new to the .22 game and got myself a toz 99 which can only take low powered .22lr rounds:
40 gr and Under 1200 fps
What choices do I have and which dealer carries such light round?

Thanks !

AE is 36g and 1150 iirc.
I have some fed 525 and dynapoint for sale.
Reliable has cci quite 710fps but dont know if it will cycle.

I think you'll find that most .22 ammo is under 1,200 fps. Not all, but most. Best idea is to visit your local gun shop, see what they have in stock, then read the box. The velocity should be noted on there. Since 22 ammo availability is a little scarce these days, probably best to explore what's available locally unless you want to order some and have it shipped. In simple terms..."standard" velocity usually means it's shooting under the speed of sound. (1,117 fps @ sea level) So, it seems manufacturers want to keep safely under that speed...or...go well over in the high velocity offerings.

I've never shot a TOZ 99, but being a semi...it may end-up having some ammos it will cycle well...others that it won't. Don't buy too much of any one kind until you've tested it. I know my Marlin semis will eat almost any standard velocity ammo. Yours may too. Since you'll be looking at labels...avoid anything under 1,000 fps. (CCI Quiet @ about 710 fps) You won't bump into many that fall into this category. They won't have the juice to cycle the action on a semi.

For me, almost all of my guns shoot standard velocity ammo best. Federal Gold Medal target @ 1080fps. CCI Standard Velociey @ 1070 fps CCI Subsonic @ 1050 etc. They shoot well in my bolt guns and semis.

as .22LRGUY said, you wont have any issues. essentially anything branded with standard velocity (or SV) will be under 1200 fps. and i have never seen a .22 LR round in a store heavier than 40gr. i know there are some specialty rounds which have been made that are heavier but nothing even close to mainstream. from the main NA companies you would be looking at CCI SV, federal champion, remington target, and IDK about winchester i stay away from it usually. those are the domestic rounds i usually go with. they are as consistent as i have seen before going into target loads. they arent overly expensive (under $0.10 per round), and you stand a chance of still finding them.

American Eagle doesn't make a 36 grain bullet. Their two available loadings are a 40 grain solid and a 38 grain hollow point, both have an advertised muzzle velocity of 1260 feet per second. Canada Tail, you would be better off searching your local gun stores for ammo than buying at the ignorant prices being offered in the EE.

Oh thats right.
Mini mags are 36g.
AE are 38g and 40g
Dynapoint are 40g.
Thanks for correcting me 22 and being classy.
Have a great day!

Thanks a lot for the suggestions. I will try a few varieties for sure. But are SV harder to get than the high velocity rounds?

No, SV are not harder to get than Velocity rounds. FWIW a lot of the ammo you are after comes through NorthSylva. They are likely the largest importer of US ammo in Canada so if you are avoiding them you might want to check the source of the 22 shells the gun shop has in stock. I am willing to be North Sylva will have supplied them so your money will be going to NS. You may have limited your self to only buying obscure ammo.
