I 've been reloading 5.7 grains of 231 behind a 200 grain Frontier semiwadcutter (in 45 ACP) for quite a while now, in part because I had lots of it ( still have 15+ lbs)- couldn't resist a bargain.
The load just barely makes IPSC major in my 5 inch 1911, and there was some flash from the muzzle but not excessive. But now I've been shooting a 4.5 inch M&P 45 and everybody tells me the muzzle flash is really spectacular plus of course it doesn't make major any more.
So can someone recommend a powder that is a little cleaner and doesn't generate as much flame?- i'm thinking of trying out IDPA and am told that these can involve low light scenarios where a large muzzle flash would be detrimental.
All suggestions welcome.
