I agree totally with potashminer. Body position / stance is everything. Bench shooting is super uncomfortable compared to field shooting, unless you set it up right

My experience is that bench shooting is more uncomfortable because you lean into it. Raise the bags higher so you can sit straight and recoil is no more uncomfortable than standing. Less chance of a scope kiss too.

Trail Boss!

I second TrailBoss! Great for significantly reduced loads and plenty accurate in the calibers I’ve used it in (7mm08, 308, 303, 45-70) with both regular bullets, lead, and gas checked lead bullets.

Another great option is H or IMR4895. Can load down from max charge weight for each cartridge it’s listed for down to 60% of that. Can tailor it to whatever your comfort level.
