How much are the old bakelite-stock VZ58's going for these days? Looking to get one in 7.62x39 as cheap as possible so i don't care much for the tacticaled NIB never-fired snowflakes really i just want a shooter even if it's a bit rough around the edges, preferably with the metal folding stock if at all possible. Will i be able to find one that's under 800?

Quite unlikely. The going rate on EE seems to be around the 1000 to 1200 bucks. Occasionally a meathead will ask 1500 for it.

$800 would be a real good price at this point. $1000+ is pretty average it seems.....Maybe you can find a bare bones+1 mag for better. Most of these guys are out to lunch.

If you get a restricted model, you might be able to get them cheaper. But like another poster said, the dollar has tanked and these are not cheap brand new.

I remember buying a personal bag of Dorito's for .35 at the convenience store (and it had more than 10 chips in it).

Just 5 or 6 years ago a new NR CZ858 was $695 brand new at Wolverine. Check the analogy I posted above. They seem to be going for over $1000 used now, as it's not 2010 anymore. I see a couple people asking $1000, I'm sure you could haggle.

The monster sale of the last 858's didn't seem to produce much fanfare on the EE afterwards, I don't think anyone sold theirs for huge money afterwards... demand just isn't there. I have a nice woody FSN restricted version I'm not selling, not many of those came over. I prefer the shorter barreled version as it just feels/looks better. I have other NR rifles to carry around if need be.

Under $800? Probably not.

Goddamnit... Guess i'll have to save up for longer. And no i need a non-restricted, i actually want to shoot it. Going to the range is a pain in the rear and i want to be able to shoot something i saved up for months wherever i want whitout memberships and paperwork and whatever; i don't have an RPAL yet in any case.

Why don't you preorder a NR Type 81? $999 + tax and shipping, they have Tactical Capitol financing too.

I would get a VZ/CZ over the T81 imo. CZ if you want millitary collectable, VZ if you want a shooter with 5 year warrenty. If you do get a T81, Do you due dilligence on the situation with norinco firearms, or you may be frustated later.

For an extra 300$ you get a gun with a 5 year warrenty compared to 1 and a massive parts market ranging from surplus to commercial. Your money is pretty secure in the VZ/CZ atlest. I know I could get what I paid for my in box CZ in the week if not 200-300$ more to the right buyer.

When I bought my VZ it was a tough choice, 1000$ for a shooter when I had an SKS?! I did it after afew months of thought and never regreted all the fun I had with it. I deffinatly got my money out of my VZ! I regret not buying 2!
