Lowest Recoil Caliber for Deer?

I shoot a 7x57 and I found the recoil quite manageable. Others have given you some great suggestions, but I thought I'd throw in what I shoot anyways.

Disagree. My 44 is quite stiff in comparison to a 243.

.243 would be my recommendation for a light recoiling deer rifle

Isn't your .44 a "77?" There is a big difference between the Ruger semi carbine and the 77 in a .44 Mag... I have shot them side by side and you knew which one you were holding when you squeezed the trigger... having said that, I don't find my cast 240 SWC loads objectionable at all, less than my .243's.

The 243 is the best. My 243 sako with a plastic butt plate kicks way less than 308 and 708 with nice recoil pads. Get a marlin xs7 or ruger American orbrowning xbolt in 243 for example. There will be no issues with recoil.

Happy Holidays, everyone. Between work and family stuff I haven't had an opportunity to get back to everyone until now. Thank you so much for the information! Looks like .243 is the overwhelming majority here. I'll be going with that!

Just get the Federal Fusion lite for your 308 - they are with 170 gr bonded Fusion bullet and downloaded to 30-30 level @2000 fps...
I did this for my 12-yr old and he finds it softer shooting than a 243

I'd recommend the 7-08 since you can scale it up to bigger game if she desires. And get in semi-auto, Browning BAR or Merkel SR1. Further, get a good butt pad.
