Loyalist Arms Baker rifle worth it?

I would have bought it from Loyalist or MH except for the fact that the TOTW Baker was already in the land of "you can get a barrel made" without shipping everything there from here.

Ultimate downfall...the Indian wood does not make my heart beat rapidly. I couldn't forgive it for not having an American black walnut stock. And I'd see these pics on TOTW of custom made guns with walnut. I love my wood!

BTW, if I could have a do-over, I'd take the Indian gun apart and have the stock duplicated in walnut.

The ones at military heritage look the most like an original Baker in my opinion. The one in your pictures looks just like one too. I’ve never owned a flint lock, only percussion so having a professional set it up is worth it to me. That’s the draw to loyalty

The MH Baker I just saw looked pretty good.
The gent fired it...he wasn't having great spark as I recall.

There was a gent there who had a trick to make flinters work very well.
Wet your finger, wipe on the frizzen, then when you pour your priming powder into the pan, let a little bit stick on the frizzen. YMMV

I have not seen TOTW parts for a Baker in some time ... not sure if they produce it any more.... :( The gun I had came from The Rifle Shoppe.

No, it is not exciting, I have no idea what it is, but you could order a stock from the rifle shoppe. Those are definitely done on a duplicator and need a fair bit of love, but are pretty good. (for a duplicated stock)

Yes, the frizzens need to be hardened properly - or replaced. Interesting trick though.

I don't know if a Loyalist rifle could be blued - someone said the barrel was really tough - the Bess I have here has never even thought about rusting. I suspect they are some kind of chrome/alloy steel.

Traditionally I believe they were left in the white or browned - they look great browned.

FWIW, That gun was really nice to shoulder and felt "just right" small sight picture, but that can be fixed easy. If I had the time and spare cash, would build one for myself.

Yes, me too. Working 12-14 hour days at the real job and on a deadline, so probably not going to get back to fun stuff until the end of May! :(

I do have notes... maybe I can get ChatGPT to write it for me ;)

Real jobs are a curse. But required, sadly. I look forward to seeing your updates. Always was interested in Baker and Ferguson rilfes. - dan

It is interesting to read this thread. My dad is good friends with Blair and he lives less then ten minutes from my parents house and my house for the first 23 years of my life. I have always known about him but didn't really know about him until my dad did some work for him and ended up buying quite a few handguns, blunder busters and connons from him over the years and developing a friendship with him
